History
The Facel-Vega FV3 is the descendant of a lineage born in 1951 with the first prototype of the Vega brand under which the Company FACEL (initial Forges Ateliers de Constructions of Eure-et-Loire) had decided to produce Grand Touring cars.
The concept of the Mark was original, ambitious, and very promising. It was born in France to a brand of sports car at the highest level, by exploiting the power and reliability of the American V8 engine mass production. The chassis, suspension and other mechanical parts were designed and made in France, with the goal of exceeding performance of the largest GT at the time.
Jean Daninos successful gamble with the biggest name, in the cinema, politics and the arts who wanted to own a Facel Vega (Danny Kaye, Joan Collins, Tony Curtis, Francois Truffaut, Joan Fontaine, Pablo Picasso and Ava Gardner, who owned three!) as they had bought Hispano-Suiza, Ferrari, and Aston-Martin. The Facel 2 had a higher price than a Rolls-Royce. Pilots such as Stirling Moss and Maurice Trintignant, famous owners of Facel-Vega, helped to give the brand recognition for its technical and mechanical achievement.
In 1956, Facel presented the FV3, whose style evolved: double superposed headlights without chromed cover prefiguring those of the later Facellia, double lateral inlets grill on both sides of the radiator grill. The ensemble was much more modern and announced what would be the memorable form of the HK 500, then later with a silhouette significantly lowered those of the Facel II. All bright work at the exterior is not chromed; all these parts are fabricated of stainless steel.
The FV3 Facel Vega was built, according to serious sources, in less than thirty cars during the years 1957 and 58. In fact, during the year of 1957, a total of 118 Facel came out of the production, integrating together the three models assembled in succession that year: FV3, FV3B, and FV4. Of these, the thirty FV3 produced; there will be no more than a dozen in the world today.
The FV3 is a particularly interesting model (in addition to its rarity) because it marks the point in the history of the mark where the true personality of modern Facel Vega took shape: the models most significant of the mark, HK 2, HK 500, and even Facellia are all more or less directly from the aesthetic archetype of the FV3.
