The appeal
The Renault Monaquatre debuted in 1932. Offered in several body styles, it was also produced in commercial versions aimed at tradespeople. The Boulangère variant evokes the delivery rounds of tradesmen in inter-war France. With its distinctive silhouette and utilitarian layout, it bears witness to an era when small shopkeepers needed simple vehicles suited to their trade. Versions of the Monaquatre are now sought after by enthusiasts of classic Renaults.
This 1932 example is said to have had three previous registered keepers, one of whom reportedly never used the vehicle. The current owner acquired it about ten years ago while it was running, but not working properly. He has since undertaken a mechanical restoration, the main work of which is detailed below.
According to the seller, the van starts on the first turn of the key and drives without difficulty. It also retains elements that reflect its history, notably largely preserved original paintwork and an interior where some fittings are said to have been replaced over time.
