The Appeal

When Hillman wanted to channel the transatlantic, Americana-themed style so popular in the 1950s, it made sense to go to the man who helped create it: Raymond Loewy. His team, which also styled the Coke bottle and every Studebaker from 1938 to 1956, devised a crisp, stylish look that worked as well on Coventry High Street as on Madison Avenue.

These compact four-seaters are notable not just for their style, but their rugged mechanicals. The cabriolet was built by famed coachbuilder Thrupp & Maberley and featured a clever three-position roof, offering full up, down, or partial ‘coupe de ville’ modes.

This 1957 example is smartly presented in black with a restored beige interior. We are told it has been unused as part of a Rome-based collection. Due to the lack of recent use the vendor recommends a check over and service before use. It is sold without number plates or registration.
