The Appeal
The Volkswagen Type is many people’s idea of the perfect camper van – charming, spacious and characterful. This is a relatively early example of the ‘T2’ generation, which offered more space, thanks to a longer wheelbase than the original, and more power from a larger, 1.6-litre engine.
Finished in head-turning white over turquoise, this left-hand drive T2 is finished with white bumpers and white wheels with period-correct chrome hub caps. Some small areas of rust can be seen.
This van features a right-side sliding door and the desirable Westfalia camper specification with pop-top that sleeps two people. Inside, the back seat folds down into a rock and roll bed that sleeps two, and the front seats fold, enabling a hammock for one to be raised. The interior,
A white-faced clock, oil pressure gauge and voltmeter have been added to the centre section of the dashboard, which also incorporates a modern Pioneer stereo. The interior features modern seats trimmed in cream, door cards in beige, and a sink and mains power socket.
The seller states that they are the fifth owner and that they bought the vehicle in 2016. They also say that the camper has been serviced annually at home since their purchase.
This camper comes with an awning and is fitted with a tow bar. The colour-matched converted Westfalia trailer shown in the pictures is also available.
This is a charming, practical and thoughtfully updated example of a T2 Westfalia that is ready to provide camping fun to its next owner.
