In the same family from new, spanning over 54 years of ownership
Garaged all its life and rarely used on a wet road
Maintained by the current owner, an ex-Jaguar apprentice
Repainted in its original colour approximately eight years ago
The Appeal
Turning the legendary MGB into a fixed-roof fastback? That's the sort of simple but oh-so-effective change to a much-loved formula that makes all the difference. Pininfarina's fastback lines made for one of the most beautiful cars ever to leave a British production line, and continues to be a rousing sports car if ever there was one - stirring to look at and stirring to drive.
This 1972 example has never left the family that bought it new. The seller's father purchased it for the seller's mother, and it was subsequently passed to the current owner, who happens to be an ex-Jaguar apprentice and has carried out periodic servicing throughout. Garaged from day one and wax oiled regularly the car has been carefully preserved rather than restored, with no significant work beyond routine maintenance.
The bodywork was repainted in its original colour approximately eight years ago to address the well-known shortcomings of British Leyland's factory paint. Inside, the dark blue leather upholstery is reported to be in good order, and the original period radio remains in place. The vendor reports that the car feels taut to drive, with accurate steering, a healthy engine showing good oil pressure, and a fully functioning overdrive.image.png1.12 MB
