The Appeal
Launched in 1975, the Peugeot 604 was a handsome executive saloon with styling by renowned Italian design house Pininfarina. Underneath the conservative exterior were a spacious cabin, easily accessed through large doors, and vast boot, as well as proven rear-wheel drive mechanicals mated to the new PRV 2.7-litre V6 engine. The 604 was praised for its excellent roadholding, outstanding ride (reckoned to match that of the Jaguar XJ6) and roominess.
This left-hand drive 604 SL with 2.7-litre V6 engine and automatic transmission was first supplied through Peugeot Ets Lepinoit et Cie of Morsang-sur-orge in 1978. According to the seller, it was owned by just one family prior to his purchase several years ago. He imported it to the UK in 2020 and it remained on static display in his private collection for a few years, prior to him registering it in 2025.
The car has been the subject of a recent respray and mechanical recommissioning. Despite its lovely appearance, it remains pleasingly original, retaining its original interior leather interior and several items that allude to its long-term family ownership, such as various dealer stickers in the windows. A host of paperwork is also supplied with the car, including the original book pack.
The 604 is a rare sight anywhere, and this outstanding example, with enviable provenance, will not only turn heads but also provide its new keeper with comfortable and relaxed driving experiences.
