Launched in 1972, the Fiat 126 marked the final evolution of the Italian marque’s rear-engined city car line, which began with the Nuovo 500 fifteen years earlier. Most of the examples produced over a 28-year period were built in Poland, one of the countries where the car became a cult icon. Based on its predecessor, the 126 offered more space beneath its more modern styling; in 1987, the 126 BIS version received a hatchback body and its flat-twin engine gained capacity and water cooling.
 
This 1990 example has benefited from being garaged since the seller acquired it in 2021, and has been started regularly. It has been resprayed in its original colour and fitted with Fiat Seicento wheels, front fog lamps and a Team Heko rear spoiler. Inside, the interior is described by the seller as “mostly new”, and features red-piped black seats and trim, as well as a Sharp radio/cassette player, giving it a fresh look while retaining its original charm.
 
The Fiat 126 delivers a characterful and engaging driving experience, and well-cared-for examples of this diminutive model are becoming increasingly hard to find. This car is ready to be enjoyed straight away, and comes with a long MOT.
