The Appeal

The Mercedes-Benz 190 marked an important departure for the Stuttgart marque when it arrived in 1982, bringing the company's engineering and build quality into a more compact package. Known internally as the W201, it introduced sophisticated features including a five-link rear suspension arrangement and would ultimately lay the foundations for the C-Class that replaced it in 1993.

This late 190 E 2.0 combines the familiar fuel-injected four-cylinder engine with an automatic transmission and an unusually generous specification. Cream leather upholstery, extensive wood trim and electrically operated equipment give the cabin a considerably richer feel than many surviving 190s, the interior remaining in 'excellent condition'.

Its history is perhaps even more appealing. The car was purchased from its original owner by the seller's father around a decade ago, having long been something of a dream car for him. Ownership subsequently passed through the family, during which time it has been garaged, used sparingly in dry weather and serviced annually.

With its well-preserved presentation, long family ownership and collection of original items and spares, this late W201 has evidently been carefully maintained throughout recent years, and is now ready to be enjoyed by its new custodian as a refined and reassuringly usable modern classic.
