The Appeal
The few hundred Chimaera 450s built are always in demand because it’s the sweet spot in the engine lineup. More powerful than the 400 and, with its crossbolted crank, more reliable than the 5L, these cars are supercar quick yet comfortable and usable in ways TVRs before and since have rarely managed.
This 1993 car has the enthusiast provenance and detailed history any buyer will hope to find. The service history is backed by invoices from specialist HHC, which maintained the car from its purchase in 2002 until the business closed in 2023. At that point, RB Sportscars, set up by ex-HHC employees, took over. Alongside regular servicing regardless of mileage, the car has received a long list of improvements, including new chassis outriggers and a rebuilt engine, gearbox, and rear axle. Recently, it received a service in May 2026 and a new oil cooler.
The car is in very good order thanks to the current keeper’s dry use and garaging regime. It is fitted with recently refurbished alloy wheels and comes with the original OZ split rims too. With an advisory-free MOT to May 2027, this clearly much-loved Chimaera is a chance to own one of the best and most entertaining British roadsters of the last 40 years.
The vendor says:
“This is a fantastic car to drive with impressive performance, with a lot of money spent on it over the years, and I am sad to see it go - it's a much-loved car and only being sold due to my old age.”
