The Appeal
Just a few hundred 600SL R129s were sold in the UK, but at close to £96,000 new, equivalent to £225,000 now, perhaps that is hardly surprising, especially when it represented a near 100% premium over a 300SL. These 386bhp V12 cars are now exceptionally rare and the ultimate, extremely smooth version of the perennially popular R129.
This 1996 example has been part of a private collection in recent years and used for classic car club shows rather than daily driving. It is a very tidy example in Azurite Blue with a silver panoramic hardtop roof, grey leather and a set of purposeful split-rim AMG Monobloc-style alloys. The vendor reports the bodywork is in above-average condition with no signs of rust, and a protective plastic coating has been applied to the paint. Inside, the seats show a little wear, but the interior is in generally good condition.
The car comes to market with recent service and current MOT to July 2027 with no advisories. A very tidy example of these super-smooth grand tourers.
The vendor says:
“The car is fantastic to drive and out of all the cars my father-in-law had, this was my personal favourite. The car starts fine and runs great with no issues.”
