The Appeal
The fifth-generation (‘F01’) BMW 7 Series moved away from its predecessor’s controversial styling and offered more space and more technology while retaining the driver appeal that has always been a key part of the flagship saloon’s appeal.
This superb 2011 example of the 740i has spent its life in Japan, where it was fastidiously maintained, and has covered only 24,000 miles since new. Unusually for Japanese vehicles, it also has a full service history, including four recorded services – the last conducted only a few hundred miles ago. It has just been imported to the UK.
The white exterior presents extremely well, with a few minor age-related marks reported. There are some small scratches on the passenger-side door, which occurred during transportation from Japan. The 18-inch wheels are free of obvious marks or damage, and fitted with Bridgestone tyres.
Inside, the interior is exceptionally well preserved, reflecting its low mileage and careful previous ownership, and described by the seller as “looking and feeling almost new”. The seats are in grey perforated leather, and the front seats and steering column are electrically adjustable. Rear-seat occupants benefit from window blinds.
The ‘N54’ twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight six is coupled to a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic gearbox. The seller states that both engine and automatic gearbox operate smoothly, and that the suspension provides the smooth, comfortable ride expected from a BMW 7 Series.
Japanese-import BMWs with such low mileage and this level of preservation are increasingly difficult to find. This is a superb example of BMW’s flagship, providing high levels of performance, space and luxury.
