The Appeal
The cycle rickshaw - or "ciclorisciò" - seems all the more ingenious in the current age of tightening emissions controls and renewable transport. Originating in Asia during the 19th century, wide varieties of rickshaws saw use across the East, serving as a form of bicycle taxi long before the concept of green urban mobility entered the mainstream.
We've managed to identify this as a Neelam heavy-duty bicycle frame, which dates the bike from 1964 onwards. It was doubtless further assembled from one of Neelam's patented rickshaw conversion kits, after which it was handsomely upholstered in floral velvet with an ornate driver's seat and impressive sunshade.
Following years of service, it later arrived into the hands of an Italian showroom, who proudly kept the Rickshaw on display. It remains an impressive, very interesting example that's rarely spotted on the market. image.png3.95 MB
