Description
I originally purchased this vehicle in 2017 with a view to modernising and developing into a travelling base. When I bought it the previous (brief) owner had spent a few thousand on some welding work and getting it MOT’d. It looked presentable as it still maintained the original Devon Conversion from 1982.
Unfortunately, after I got it home I realised it was well past its best. The wood used in the original conversion had become rotten. As I stripped out, it was obvious that it needed a lot more work than I’d been led to believe.
The vision was to convert the vehicle myself and create the home I had been dreaming about for a long time. The reality was that a good amount of my initial budget was spent on making it weather proof, replacing rotten panels and further welding work carried out where necessary.
The future of this rare beauty is up to you. It is full of character and mechanically solid.
Surprisingly, initially I was shocked at how it would never fail to start and run but I now have absolute faith on the running of it. These have the formidable OM616 engine. It is MOT’d for a further 6 months.
Long story short, life got ahead of me and I ran out of time and money to continue the project and see the vision for it carried out. The vehicle is stripped out and ready for someone to give it the time and TLC it deserves. This could make the perfect foundation for a home on the road or even a catering van.
Cabin:
It needs a bit of work doing with the dashboard and switches, window winding mechanisms and vent system.
Interior:
Don’t be turned off at the superficial surface rust. This is the result of the rotten interior that had to come out as water had leaked in. Needs a wire brush up and a lick of appropriate paint. I would say that it’s a fairly large blank canvas/ open space with which you could create a number of different purposes.
Bodywork:
Considering it’s 35 years old the bodywork is in pretty good condition. The rear side windows have been removed and refitted to be weather proofed. The previous owner replaced front wheel arches and welded new door steps. I fitted new Fiamma roof skylights to the original high roof conversion. Unfortunately some goons have had a screwdriver at some of the locks and used a Stanley knife on one of the rear window seals to gain entry in an attempt to steal it. Unsuccessfully and all locks still work.
Other Work:
New Fuel Pump and Filters
Engine Service
Brake Service
Fuel Tank removal and clean
Front scuttle panel replaced
The vehicle sale includes a few spares including new genuine door seals, some window runner parts, spare front indicator lens, original badge and also the original handbook and manual. I also have a folder full of receipts and other information. If you want more information please drop me an email.
