Description
This is a simply lovely 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagoda, a UK right-hand-drive example offered to the market only due to the sad passing of its long-term owner, who had owned the car since the early 1980s.
The vehicle benefits from an extensive and comprehensive history file, including a detailed breakdown of expenditure over the last several years, with work carried out by reputable Mercedes-Benz specialists. It is abundantly clear that the late owner had every intention of making this car one of the very best examples available, and the level of care, time, and financial investment can be clearly seen in the condition of the car today.
In more recent years, the owner commissioned a major restoration programme, spending in excess of £85, 000 with respected classic specialists in Kent. The restoration was completed in 2023, and the accompanying history file contains extensive documentation from 2018–2023, including invoices, photographs, written notes, and detailed correspondence between the owner and the restorers.
The car had not been used since mid-2023; however, during its time in our custody and control, a significant further sum has been invested over the past few weeks. This work has focused on recommissioning, refinement, and presentation, and the car now presents extremely well. It is our firm belief that, had the previous owner not sadly passed away, the programme of improvement would have continued — very much in line with the work we have since carried out to further enhance the car.
A full recommission has been completed, including a full service and tune-up. The car has previously benefited from a bare-metal repaint, which remains in excellent condition, with any minor areas addressed as part of the sales preparation process. The underside is in excellent order, reflecting the quality of the restoration work undertaken.
Ownership history is excellent, with only five owners from new, and notably the last owner having cared for the car since 1984.
This is a matching-numbers car, originally supplied in white with a black interior, and today it stands as a beautifully presented, usable, and highly honest example of this iconic model.
At its price point, this UK right-hand-drive Pagoda represents fantastic value for money, particularly when set against the current market and the level of expenditure invested over recent years. It is a car that can be purchased with confidence and enjoyed immediately.
