Lot 949
A 1927 Rover 16/ 50.
Reg No. DF 2826.
Car No. 4696.
Engine No. 4696.
Brown and black.
The short-lived and very rare Rover 16/ 50 Coupe was powered by the Poppe-designed 2418cc OHC engine. Although the engine was technically advanced, its power output was not outstanding it having been designed in 1918, six years before Poppe joined Rover. The cylinder head carries the valves, the inlets being directly operated by the OHC, whilst the exhaust valves on the opposite side of the head, are actuated by horizontal pushrods. This car was re-purchased by the Rover Company in 1972 and placed in their museum until it was sold again in 2006 to a private owner.
The car remains in excellent condition and would benefit from being returned to the road.
