1989 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL (R107) – 5. 0 V8 – One of the Final R107s Produced – 80, 000 Miles – Outstanding Provenance

First Registered: 1st August 1989

Classic and Sports Ltd are delighted to offer what is undoubtedly one of the finest Mercedes-Benz 500 SL (R107) examples we have had the pleasure of bringing to market.

First registered on 1st August 1989, this exceptional Mercedes-Benz 500 SL represents the very end of the legendary R107 production. Manufactured during the final month of production before the R107 was replaced by the all-new R129, this beautifully preserved example is unquestionably one of the very last 500 SLs built and supplied for the UK market.

The R107 enjoyed an extraordinary production run spanning almost eighteen years and has become one of the most iconic Mercedes-Benz models ever built. Revered for its timeless Paul Bracq styling, exceptional engineering, superb build quality and effortless long-distance refinement, it remains one of the marque’s most desirable modern classics.

Powered by the magnificent 5. 0-litre M117 V8, the European-market 500 SL was the flagship model of the range, offering effortless performance, outstanding reliability and refined grand touring ability. Only 11, 812 European-market 500 SLs were produced during the model’s production run, making these V8 cars increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike. This August 1989 example sits amongst the final cars to leave the famous Sindelfingen production line, adding another level of desirability to an already exceptional motor car.

Finished in beautiful Signal Red with a matching black leather interior, this outstanding example has covered just 80, 000 miles from new and has remained with its previous owner for approximately 20 years, a testament to just how highly it has been regarded.

The condition throughout is simply superb.

The paintwork presents beautifully with an excellent depth of finish, while the black leather interior remains wonderfully soft, supple and exceptionally well preserved. The dashboard is beautifully presented with none of the common deterioration often found on cars of this era, and the wood veneer throughout the cabin is in outstanding condition.

The hood appears almost as new, the factory hardtop is in excellent order, the alloy wheels are all beautifully presented and the engine bay has clearly benefited from meticulous care, presenting to an exceptionally high standard.

Equally impressive underneath, the bulkhead is excellent, the underside is remarkably clean and solid, and this is very much a car that is ready to be driven and enjoyed immediately.

Supplied new to Hillsdown Holdings of London, the car has passed through only a handful of owners during its lifetime and is accompanied by one of the most comprehensive history files we have encountered.

Finding an R107 is relatively easy. Finding one of the very last cars produced, with just 80, 000 miles, approximately 20 years of previous ownership, an exceptional Mercedes-Benz service record and presented to this remarkable standard is becoming increasingly difficult.

This is an outstanding example in every respect. It drives beautifully, presents superbly and is exactly the sort of car that is becoming increasingly difficult to replace.

Whether you are looking for a car to enjoy on long continental tours, to add to an established collection or simply to own one of Mercedes-Benz’s greatest ever grand touring cars, this exceptional 500 SL will not disappoint.
