The Appeal
The 8-series was first introduced with this beautiful tourer in 1990. These big, bold cars were intended to push the company's reputation beyond the already stellar 6-series' performance, taking it into territory that could rival the likes of Porsche and their 968. It boasted two extra cylinders compared to its stablemates, hugely improved performance and an interior trim that, naturally, came with a much higher price. Sadly, it hit the market at a bad time - the economy was on a downturn, and the public wasn't biting. As a result, this handsome machine didn't manage particularly large sales.
The 840 Ci Sport, powered by a 4.4-litre V8, offered a compelling blend of performance and refinement, and 1999 examples like this one are particularly significant as the final year of production before the model was discontinued. With fewer than 3,100 of this specific year and model built worldwide, survivors in good order are increasingly sought after.
This example has been in the care of its current owner for a decade and remains mechanically standard throughout.image.png1.38 MB
