The ES2 shared the same big 490cc single cylinder overhead valve design as the Model 18 but in a much sportier frame and finish. Manufactured from 1927 all the way through to 1964 the ES2 proved to be a popular bike for Norton. Being the 1948 model this bike benefits from the famous Roadholder telescopic fork and spring-plunger rear suspension, providing a refined ride for a bike of this period.
The current owner acquired the bike as a complete pile of parts from a friend who had brought it back from Portugal where it had spent many years as a field bike before being stripped in preparation for a restoration that never happened.
However the current owner is a die hard bike enthusiast and wasted no time in completing a full restoration including complete engine rebuild. But now due to a lack of workshop space the owner has decided to sell on this fantastic ES2 having completed the restoration.
Whilst we don’t have paperwork detailing the history of the bike, there are invoices for all of the parts used during the extensive restoration and there is a dating certificate (pictured). The ES2 will also benefit from a current V5 document with the sale. Also included is a Certificate from the Vintage Motorcycle Club.
This bike is in fantastic condition throughout after having undergone an extensive restoration by the current owner. Whilst it’s not a concourse bike, most of the chrome is in excellent condition along with all of the trim (foot pegs etc), saddles and running gear and the bike presents very well overall.
All of the mechanics have been overhauled and as such are in fantastic condition, this includes a full engine and gearbox rebuild including new bearings, big end, main etc. The forks have had new stanchion seals and bushes, new clutch and drivetrain, new rims and spokes both front and back wheels and new brake shoes.
The rear suspension has had new plungers and springs and the entire wiring loom has been renewed. The frame and tin has all been shot blasted and refinished as needed.
We would note that as the bike has been unused for the last year or so it would benefit from a little tinkering to get it running at its absolute best, but make no mistake this bike is mechanically superb and would be perfect for someone looking for a ready to ride classic.
The ES2 is a true British classic and this is a very fine example. Benefitting from rear suspension and the Roadholder fork the 48’ makes for a classic bike that rides well and offers some real comfort compared to its hardtail cousins.
Having undergone a comprehensive restoration including a full engine rebuild this bike is ready for the road and would make a great choice for someone looking for a classic that doesn’t need work and is ready for enjoyment out on the open road.
The ES2 is the kind of classic bike that all motorcyclists love, a great looking, fun to ride British born bike that can handle everything from twisting country lanes to wide open straights. Bid now, this one won't be around for long!

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.
£0 to £10,000
£10,000 to £50,000
Automatically outbid immediately
When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours. You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
