Recently owned and maintained by a Jaguar specialist and kept in preserved condition
Utterly charming car that drives perfectly
THE APPEAL
Introduced in 1957 as the replacement for the XK140, the Jaguar XK150 was arguably the prettiest of the XK sports cars.
With a one-piece windscreen replacing the split screen, and the wing line carried higher and more streamlined at the doors, it also featured a wider bonnet and a less tapered rear end.
The cabin was improved, too, with a leather-topped dash, more passenger space and a nominal set of rear seats, albeit for the tiniest of people.
This example is an incredible car. Owned for the past three years by a Jaguar specialist as his own vehicle, the XK150 is like no other. It’s an unrestored car with the most astonishing history – right back to the original buff log book and a hand-written service history jotted in the back of the handbook.
It’s an incredibly original, unrestored example that has been kept on the road for 65 years with regular care and maintenance, and its patina is every bit as much a part of its charm as its provenance.
Supplied new by Pollard’s of Chelmsford and residing in Essex for all of its life, the XK150 was chosen in special order black, with steel wheels in lieu of the standard wires that were offered on the SE model. It has had three owners and the history is backed up by service records and more than six decades of paperwork.
There won’t be another one like it.

THE INTERIOR
Red leather upholstery
Complete and very tidy condition
Gentle patina throughout
Period Ecko Elite radio
The absolute core to this car’s appeal lies in its originality and the interior is a substantial part of that – it’s entirely complete and unspoilt, but with a very mild patina that adds to the car’s character. The red leather seats are in great order other tham some very light markds, as are the carpets, while the dash top is also straight and tidy but with some fading to the leather.
All of the dials and controls work as intended and there’s a delightful (untested) Ecko Elite push-button radio in the lower dash.
THE EXTERIOR
Original Special Order black
Unrestored with all original panels
Factory steel wheels
Gorgeous patina
Finished in Special Order black, as specified by the Jaguar’s first owner, the car has all of its original panels and is generally very solid indeed, having been maintained regardless of costs for all of its life.
It has had some work over the years but retains all its original bodywork. There’s an invoice in the history file for a respray 43 years ago (at a cost of £318!) but all of the original panels we retained.
Today, it still has a good shine and looks amazing from a distance, but close up there are areas where the paint is chipped, cracked or crazed and there are also some small areas of rust on the lower passenger side door and wing bottoms. In many ways, the patina is part of its appeal – you could turn it into a show car easily enough, but the originality is lovely in itself.
The chassis appears sound, backed up by the reassurance of a recent MOT inspection.
THE MECHANICS
3.4-litre XK straight-six
Four-speed manual
Drives brilliantly
Always well-maintained
The service history and the fact that the car has been owned by a Jaguar specialist are enough to reassure you that the mechanical side of things will be spot-on with this one – and that’s absolutely the case. The car starts and runs without issue and the steering, brakes and suspension are really tight and the gearbox a genuine pleasure to use – on a short test drive, it performed brilliantly and felt like a very well-sorted car.
SUMMARY
This is a charming and characterful example of the classic XK150, showing a gentle patina but with a fabulous history file that makes that slightly careworn appearance very much a big part of its appeal.
It’s one to preserve rather than restore – a wonderful example of what must be one of the most original XK150s left in existence.
