1960 Ford Falcon

Highlights

  • Completely original condition
  • Classic American looks

The appeal

Completely original, honest, base spec Falcon that’s led an easy life with low owners and low mileage.

Originally a Californian car it has been imported into Belgium in 2019, it spent its life in the USA garaged and mainly did trips to the shops and back. Since being in Belgium it has been garaged and well taken care of.  It has been well loved during its time and would suit a sympathetic owner looking to continue its care.

The history and paperwork

  • Two full service and shop manuals
  • Magazines featuring the car
  • Parts book
  • Heater instructions card
  • Personalised registration plate included in sale
  • Californian title
  • All import paperwork present

After spending most of its life in southern California, the Falcon was purchased by the current owner’s father’s friend’s grandma who drove the car on Sundays for most of its registered mileage. The current owner purchased the car in 2017 from another owner who was known by their father, it has had a small amount of work completed such as a rebuilt carburettor and a replacement fuel pump but remains largely in original condition.

The car has had some bodywork repair from some damage at some point in its life, it has been repaired but the owner is unsure to what standard the repair was done to. There is also evidence of further bodywork repair to dents etc which have been filled. The front of the vehicle was correct, behind the passenger door has some evidence of repair, the rear bumper has a slight bend too, but it is in otherwise in good condition.

There is some general corrosion coming through on various places and it has failed its Belgian equivalent of an MOT (CT) for corrosion underneath, but this is 61-year-old car and it has held up very well considering.

The Interior

  • Painted surfaces in excellent shape
  • Basic equipment so less to go wrong
  • Good condition carpets
  • Rear bench seat in good condition
  • Nice retro sliding speedo
  • Dash is in good condition also

Although some of the fabrics are slightly worn with the driver’s seat having some tears, it gives the car its basic, hardy and relentless character. Nothing major has gone wrong in the interior, nothing’s falling off or missing, it’s all original fabric and trim too so its seen 61 years of happy journeys and memory making.

The Exterior

  • Wheels in good condition
  • Chrome in good condition with minor pitting
  • Partial respray on the front of the car
  • Fantastic 60’s American styling

The Falcon looks the best in black we think and the owner reports that the car certainly turns heads when out on the road, it’s a product that took influences from the space race with the rocket booster rear light styling and it’s remained a standout design to this day.

The paintwork is reported to be in decent condition with some expected levels of general wear and tear. The chrome is in good condition with some pitting and that aforementioned ding in the rear bumper.

The wheels are in good condition, but the tyres could do with being replaced soon. All the glass is in good condition with the windscreen having a stone chip. All electrics are thought to be functional for the exterior of the car.

The Mechanics

  • Engine bay clean with some general wear and tear
  • Slight surging on acceleration
  • Shifts, steers and stops as intended
  • Brakes work well and don’t pull
  • Gear changes are good
  • No significant leaks or smoking

The basic level 144 cubic inch engine in the Falcon is said to be working well aside from the surging carburettor, which may just need a clean and a retune. It’s a very basic engine so fixes and maintenance should be easily within reach of the capable home mechanic.

There are no significant leaks or any smoking at all and the car goes, shifts, turns and brakes as it should, from this level of spec that is all that would have been needed from the Falcon and it does it clearly as intended.

Summary

Fantastic 60’s ‘space age’ styling that still turns heads today a basic simple specification with some great attributes, this Falcon could be a great little purchase for someone wanting a little slice of Americana to make their own or to bring back to showroom condition seeing as its all original.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
