The Background

First introduced in 1962, the MG MGB was British Motor Corporation’s lightweight, affordable 2 door sports car set to beat MG’s rivals and take the world by storm. With numerous models over the years, the roadster variant is arguably one of the most iconic British classic cars of all time. Over the years, the MGBs and particularly the roadster variant, have developed an almost cult-like following, with one of the largest aftermarket communities in the world.

To this day, companies continue to remanufacture OEM+ parts to meet the demand of MGB enthusiasts worldwide, meaning parts aren’t as rare to find as you may expect.

The History

This MGB was originally built in 1965, and was exported to the United States much like many other MGB’s at the time due to their popularity. After its time in North America, the MGB returned home to the UK in 1995/96, where it underwent a major restoration and conversion to RHD. There is plenty of paperwork included with the vehicle covering its restoration, parts fitted and work undergone.

In the year 2000, the current owner purchased the freshly restored car and has treasured it ever since, covering a mere 17,000 miles since the year of purchase. This vehicle has truly been the pride and joy of its owner, and is now looking for it’s next home, where it will continue to be cared for and adored.

The Paperwork

The amount of organised paperwork this vehicle comes with certainly shouldn't be overlooked, with plenty of receipts for work carried out, new parts, certificates and much more. Key pieces of vehicle history are included, including receipts for a new reconditioned engine, as well as information regarding a restoration for the year 2000.

Throughout the years the vehicle was restored, the current owner has compiled a helpful list of each part and work carried out, up until the restoration completion.

This car has been taken care of by an MG specialist, and with receipts from quality suppliers such as Moss, the vehicle’s new owner can have confidence that the vehicle has been maintained and built to a very high standard. As this vehicle was imported from the United States, the new owner will also be pleased to know that the extensive folder of paperwork also includes certification regarding the vehicle’s registration and certification.

The Interior

Similar to the vehicle’s exterior condition, the interior is in brilliant condition and is a genuinely great place to be. The ever so classy combination of wood effect and leather simply takes the cabin to another level, and offers the driver a very pleasant experience. The comfy leather seats are in great condition given the vehicle’s age, and will certainly stand the test of many more road trips and outings in this characterful car.

This MGB features the stunning 3 Spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel, which contrasts beautifully against the wooden dash and dark leather.

There’s absolutely nothing classier than a wooden steering wheel, that we can all agree on. Each dial and instrument has been well preserved, with no faults and minimal signs of the usual wear & tear you often see with cars of this age.

The Exterior

This MGB’s British Racing Green paintwork is in excellent condition for the vehicle's age, and still looks incredible to this day. In addition to the stunning green paintwork, the vehicle’s chrome trim pieces and bumpers are in great condition and further reflect the low mileage covered by the car.

The icing on the cake are the classy wire spoke wheels all round, with plenty of tyre tread left for the new owner to enjoy and even a full size spare in the boot. The soft top is in great condition, with only the slightest of marks for the age of the vehicle. When you take the roof down for a sunny day, you’ll also be able to see that all fixing points are in great condition with no faults.
The styling of an MGB is truly iconic and continues to outshine modern cars to this day. This stunning British Racing Green example is no different and will surely continue to attract the gaze of onlookers wherever it goes.

The Mechanics

The car starts up with a turn of the key, and drives very well. The new owner will be pleased to know that the car holds oil pressure perfectly fine, doesn’t overheat and has no known mechanical issues. In addition to this, all instruments and electrical items are working as intended, without fault. Power steering has also been fitted by the owner.

The 4 speed manual gearbox with overdrive shifts perfectly and pairs well with the peppy 1.8 B series to provide a very characterful driving experience, and put a grin on the face of the driver almost instantly.

As previously mentioned, the car has recently been taken care of by an MG specialist, which in addition to the vast paperwork, should fill the new owner with plenty of confidence.

The Appeal

The MGB is arguably one of the most iconic British cars ever produced, and is a car that should be on the bucket list of any true motoring enthusiast or collector. It’s a stylish, simple to maintain sports car that has one of the largest followings and aftermarket communities, and is rapidly becoming few and far between.

This particular example with it’s stunning British Racing Green paintwork needs nothing to be enjoyed by its new owner, and looks for it’s next top-down adventure on the roads.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
