1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow

  • Rare, early example of the Silver Shadow
  • Regal red paintwork with cream leather interior
  • Highly original and very well presented

The Appeal

Practically synonymous with Rolls-Royce, the Silver Shadow is a legendary slab-sided luxury car that carried plenty of brand new technical innovations for its day - with a hydropneumatic suspension, disc brakes and a glamorous interior that quickly warmed the car to its target audience - the world elite.

This early example comes to us in excellent order, with an impressive period interior and a distinguished character that’s really warmed us at Car & Classic. We’ve no doubt this car will garner plenty of attention.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built in 1965
  • Originally supplied to Switzerland
  • In 1970 the car was registered in the UK, where it’s remained since
  • The DVLA records seven owners in the United Kingdom
  • Currently indicates 89,013 miles on a five-figure odometer
  • The car was recorded at 98,637 miles in 2008, so the car may have been ‘around the clock’
  • The car underwent a major service last year and has been driven twice since
  • MOT exempt and last tested in 2008
  • The car’s paperwork file includes:
    • Photocopy of the original order form
    • Photocopy of the factory test card
    • Photocopy of the car’s sale invoice
    • Photocopy of the warranty claim in 1967
    • Invoice for a major service in 2022
    • Buff log book
    • A photocopy of the car’s recordable info
    • V5c document
  • Cherished plate will be removed - car is being sold with KWE 840J

The Interior

  • Impressive period interior in cream leather
  • Highly original with no known modifications
  • Cream leather seats are full and free of any significant wear
  • We can’t spot any rips or tears across the board
  • The door cards are clean and well-kept
  • Dashboard features an extensive walnut trim
  • This is in very good order with only light age-commensurate wear
  • The instruments are all clean and well-presented
  • A Radiomobile music system is stowed underneath the dash
  • Air conditioning is present and correct
  • The array is nicely completed by a period steering wheel
  • The interior chromework carries some patina
  • The carpets and mats are in very good condition throughout
  • Round the back, the boot looks solid with clean lining

The Exterior

  • Impressive slab-sided bodywork with the legendary Rolls-Royce grille
  • The bodywork is tightly-knit and well-presented
  • Regal Red paintwork that was refreshed fairly recently
  • Some light marks, smudges and swirling
  • The chromework carries a slight patina but presents well
  • The signature grille is very impressive with the trademark branding and ornament
  • Glasswork and lenses are in good order with no chips or fractures
  • The cat is sat on its original colour-matched wheels
  • Shod in a full set of Avon tyres which look in good order
  • The underside carries some surface corrosion but looks solid throughout

The Mechanics

  • 6230cc L410 V8 powerplant
  • 4-speed automatic transmission
  • The engine bay carries light age-commensurate wear
  • However, it is in highly original condition throughout
  • The vendor notes that the brake pedal has to travel quite far to engage
  • This is likely to be a corroded brake line that will need repair
  • However, other than this the car is working well with no major faults
  • We understand the car has no leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke

Beautifully presented, and highly original, this is a very early example of a legendary model of luxury car. With its impressive colour scheme and marvellous interior, we’ve no doubt this luxury car will attract plenty of attention.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
