The Appeal

The 250 V8 was introduced in 1967, alongside the Jaguar 240/340 with a similar, minor facelift. This included new slim bumpers and over-riders, negative-earth electrical system, an alternator instead of a dynamo and twin air cleaners, one for each carburettor.  Other new features included padding over the instrument panel, padded door cappings and ventilated leather upholstery, reclinable front seats, plus optional power steering. The 240/340 lost its leather interior and fog lights but the better equipped Daimler retained both.

This 1967 example was the subject of a £48,000 restoration and is presented in possibly the best colour combination of Dark Blue with contrasting biscuit leather and blue carpets.  Fully restored between 2016 and 2019 by a group of engineers, the Daimler was taken back to bare metal, and the body was restored using traditional techniques whilst retaining as much originality as possible. Then the car was rebuilt to original Daimler factory standards. All the work is supported by printed and photographic documentation showing that there were no time or budget limits on the project which took over 3000 hours. Having covered nominal miles since completion it remains in superb condition throughout

The Interior

  • Biscuit leather seats
  • All wood newly veneered
  • New light blue carpets
During the rebuild the interior was completely restored whilst retaining or refurbishing as many original parts as possible.  The original leather seats were treated and cleaned, but still retain their nicely aged appearance. The original carpets were beyond help, so a new set was made in the original shade of light blue. The original Daimler interior wood trim was re-veneered with a couple of pieces replaced where necessary. There is an invoice on file for £3,688 interior parts, door trims and roof lining!

The Exterior

  • Exceptionally glossy Dark Blue paint
  • £3,500 spent on re-chroming
  • New chrome spoke wheels with tyres
Once the metalwork was complete the Daimler was re-painted in its original Dark Blue colour before the restored chrome was reinstalled. New chrome wire wheels with Daimler hub spinners were added, shod with a new set of correct profile tyres. The paintwork remains in excellent condition with a deep lustre and shine and contrasts beautifully with the sparkling chrome wire wheels and chrome trim.

Overall the exterior is superb and is a testament to the skill and attention to detail of the restorers.

The Mechanics

  • Fully rebuilt 2.5 litre V8 and Borg Warner automatic gearbox
  • Unleaded head conversion
  • New Fosseway performance 4 pot disc brakes
  • Equipped with factory power steering
The engine was stripped, cleaned, de-coked and then carefully re-built to run on unleaded fuel. The radiator was sent away to be professionally re-cored and repainted to as new condition. The auto transmission was overhauled, along with filters, brackets etc. The whole braking system was completely overhauled and has been equipped with Fosseway Performance 4 pot front calipers and vented discs, plus new discs and calipers at the rear, all fitted with EBC Green Stuff pads.

More recently the car has benefited from 8 new NGK plugs, new HT leads, new coil, new air filters and new glass bowl fuel filter assembly.

The seller tells us that the Daimler fires up at the merest touch of the start button, idles beautifully and sounds glorious when revved. The oil pressure sits at a steady 40+psi when cold and remains well within factory readings once warm.  The newly rebuilt braking system stops the car well and the Daimler rides beautifully.

Summary

A glance through the photographs will leave you in no doubt as to how comprehensive the restoration was.  Over a three year period the Daimler was completely rebuilt from top to bottom.  Every part was either refurbished or restored to retain originality.  Where a part was not available the restorers made one from scratch.  Any parts that we too far gone were replaced, and the result speaks for itself.  There can be few Daimler V8s that have received such a detailed restoration, and this is probably one of the best examples currently on the market

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
