The Appeal

From 1961 to 1968, the International Harvester C-Series - later the D-series - was a near-ubiquitous all-duty pickup, one that managed to find its place in the world doing everything from carrying chicken crates to fire hoses. With their quintessentially American looks and industrial specs, these industrious wagons were equally at home in the middle of a muddy field as they were on dusty roads.

It wasn’t strictly an American success, though. The C-series found itself in Europe, too, where their utilitarian versatility made them a superb pick for everything from fire appliances to crate carriers. This particular example was first registered for the Norwegian Fire Service, where it worked from 1968 all the way up until 2002.

Since then, it’s been beautifully restored, and now comes to us in a superb order, with a brand new wooden bed and a very well-presented interior.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built in 1968 in Springfield, Ohio
  • First registered in Norway in the same year
  • Here, it worked for the Stryn Fire Department for Vestland, Norway
  • It remained in this ownership until 2002
  • From here, it entered private ownership
  • The truck was later restored with a new wooden bed, retrimmed interior and general overhaul
  • Currently indicates 17,519 Km on a five-figure odometer
  • Sadly we can’t verify the truck’s authentic mileage
  • The car’s extensive paperwork file includes:
    • Original build sheet
    • 1968 service document
    • A selection of invoices
    • Some blueprints for the truck’s original form

The Interior

  •  Interior is in very good original condition
  • Beige upholstery, fully retrimmed and presented in excellent order
  • Some very light marks to the far driver’s side bolster
  • The dashboard is very well presented with light marks
  • This is particularly clear where the original tape labels sat above the instruments
  • Some remains of what appears to be tape on the glove compartment door
  • All of the instruments are clean and well-kept
  • We understand that every instrument and dial on the dash is in working order
  • The truck’s branded steering wheel is still in good order
  • The rubber floor mats are in good order with solid floors underneath
  • The headlining carries light signs of wear but is otherwise in excellent order

The Exterior

  • Impressive all-American aesthetics
  • Bodywork in good order with a good panel fit
  • Wooden bed constructed during the restoration
  • The bed is carrying light signs of wear but looks solid
  • Painted in two-tone red and white
  • This is largely a clear-cut upper-and-lower cabin
  • However, we do note the unusual graded appearance to the rear of the cab
  • The bodywork looks solid with some signs of wear to the sills and arches
  • Chromework is largely in good order with light pitting
  • The glasswork and lenses are largely in good order
  • One of the parking lamp lenses is broken and requires replacement
  • The car is sat on its original wheelset
  • There are 3 extra tyres on the wooden bed.
  • Underneath, the truck appears to be in solid condition with light surface corrosion

The Mechanics

  • Powered by a 304cu in. V8 powerplant, providing around 193hp
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • Limited slip-diff
  • We understand that the vehicle is running perfectly
  • The engine bay shows light signs of wear but appears solid throughout
  • The car’s slip-diff is reportedly working as expected with no faults
  • We’ve no reports of any leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke

Summary

With its impressive, rugged aesthetics and a solid wooden bed, this truck is an evocative time capsule to a different era - with a fresh interior and that ever-impressive V8 guaranteeing a great experience for driver and passenger alike.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
