1969 Land Rover 2a (3.9 V8 auto custom)

  • Series IIA body on purpose built galvanised 88 chassis
  • New Exmoor top
  • Very low mileage since extensive restomod

The Appeal

Everyone loves a Series Land Rover, with their iconic rugged looks and classic British heritage, but they often leave a little to be desired in the driving experience. Not this one; the IIA body is mounted on a new customised Land Rover 88 galvanised chassis with the fantastic 3.9l V8 EFi engine and four speed ZF gearbox, upgraded brakes and power steering as well as air assisted suspension, making for a Series Land Rover like no other. Quite possibly the ultimate Land Rover chimera, it's the kind of custom vehicle that will put a smile on anyone's face, especially when they hit the throttle.

The car was professionally built by Land Rover specialist Jack Fielder and has covered very few miles since. In excellent condition throughout (with the appropriate patina inside the IIA shell) and MOT to February this exceptional vehicle is ready to drive away and enjoy.

The Interior

  • Classic utilitarian IIA interior
  • New 13” Momo steering wheel
  • Range Rover Automatic gear selector
  • Cabin heater
  • Original dashboard
  • Insulated panels
  • Interior has an extensive patina befitting of an original Land Rover
  • Front seats and rear benches present well
  • Inside of the Exmoor hood presents perfectly

Hopping up into the cab of this Land Rover there is little apart from the autobox selector lever, Momo steering wheel and an extra dial or two that gives any hint to what lies beneath. All of the interior panels and dashboard shows a healthy patina that’s very fitting for a Land Rover of this age. The front seats and rear benches are all in good condition, the inside of the Exmoor hood presents as new and all of the instruments and heater work as they should.

The Exterior

  • Classic IIA styling
  • New Exmoor hood in excellent condition
  • All five lightweight Wolf wheels present excellently
  • General Grabber tyres all round with lots of tread
  • Port cut into nearside wing for air intake
  • Paintwork in sound condition overall
  • Cages over all of the lights
  • Windows, light lenses and badges all present well
  • Tow hitch
  • Fold out side steps

This Land Rover looks every bit the classic, standard IIA on the outside. With the new Exmoor hood, five very good wheels and cages over all of the lights it very much looks the part. Finished in green with the sand coloured hood it’s as quintessentially Land Rover as they come!

The bodywork is in good used condition, with the usual bumps and dents one would expect on a  53 year old Land Rover. The green paintwork presents well and the hood, Wolf wheels and tyres are all excellent.

The Mechanics

  • New custom Land Rover 88 Galvanised chassis
  • Range Rover 3.9L V8 Engine and ZF automatic gearbox
  • Power steering
  • Custom stainless steel exhaust
  • Air assisted rear suspension
  • Land Rover Defender axles
  • Land Rover Discovery brake servo with ventilated discs
  • Extensive new parts, including all of the brakes, suspension and steering
  • Starts easily and idles well
  • Sounds fantastic through the custom exhaust
  • It has servo assisted brakes and a purpose built braking system with ventilated discs
  • The owner informs us that it drives superbly accelerating very well, shifting smoothly and braking quickly

The mechanical aspects of this Land Rover present superbly. Having covered very few miles since the extensive restomod and with almost all of the running gear being new, the underside and ancillaries are more like that of a new vehicle straight out of the factory.

Full custom specification by the owner includes power steering, air assisted rear suspension, full custom stainless steel exhaust, Land Rover Discovery brakes, a new galvanised chassis and that fantastic V8, making a car that's ready for anything as well as being ridiculously fun to drive. The engine starts easily on a turn of the key and sounds fantastic through the custom-made stainless steel exhaust system. It idles beautifully with no unwanted noises and the owner reports that it drives exactly as it should.

With classic Land Rover good looks, but performance no Series Land Rover could ever hope for this one-off is truly something special. The IIA body looks the part and the interior has a healthy patina that perfectly suits the vehicle, however all of the running gear is essentially new as it has covered so few miles.  In superb mechanical condition throughout and with MOT to February it’s ready to jump in and enjoy.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
