1970 MGB GT Coupe

Highlights

• Mechanically very sound
• Recessed grill model
   Body sound and solid

The Background

This variant of the MGB GT, the fixed roof type, was introduced in 1965 and was designed by Pininfarina and really launched the sporty hatchback style, in fact it was named one of “Pininfarina’s most beautiful designs that aren’t Ferraris”.

This body style had the style and shape of a coupe but still offered the utility and space of a station wagon with its 2+2 layout and right angled rear bench seat. It offered far more space than the roadster.

The History

The Current owner has been in possession of the car for approx. 2 years. Prior to that the car was in storage for roughly 20 years.

The Interior

Stylish all black interior with chrome trims. It has had a drivers seat repair but just the worst of it, not a full renovation.

The Exterior

A good usable classic although not perfect, but very sound and solid, it could benefit from some very minor repairs, namely stone chips and minor blemishes. All wear is genuine and gives the car a character befitting its age and would certainly be a joy to the right owner who appreciates this patina!

The Exterior has had some panels resprayed to a good standard. Features the slightly rare recessed type grill. Overall tidy and very usable but certainly not show condition.

Original wire spoke wheels. tyres in good condition and chrome work in generally good condition.

The Mechanics

The vendor tells us this car is solid underneath. It's a car that has done about 500 miles a year and has been used recently for short journeys. However the mileage cannot be verified, Overdrive works, two new batteries, everything as it should be mechanically apart from the rev counter, which the vendor tells us is not working.

The engine is in keeping with its use, and all solid and running well. The vendor tells us its starts first time and runs well, making this a car to be well loved and used regularly! The vendor also tells us the vehicle was fitted with a stainless steel exhaust approx one year ago.

The Appeal

A very usable drivers car that is begging to be driven regularly and used well!

Featuring all the patina you would expect from a car of this age from a life of use and enjoyment. certainly a gem to a driver or enthusiast.

Making a secure purchase on Car & Classic Auctions

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000+ £500.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
