The Appeal
The pillarless coupe was a clever evolution of Mercedes-Benz boxy, workaday saloon. It added the kind of understated glamour that underpins the best transcontinental GTs. Today, outside of a small coterie of enthusiasts, these practical, stylish and very usable cars are something of an undiscovered gem in the classic world.
This 1971 250CE with its fuel injected straight six 2.5L M114 engine was first registered in Japan. You may be surprised by the LHD configuration but for local buyers this was a status symbol associated with high end luxury cars like this one. It arrived in the UK earlier this year and was put through a voluntary MOT, which is passed without advisories.
Classically finished in the attractive combination of white over burgundy leather, this is a tidy and presentable W114 that retains many of its original factory features. There is scope to improve it, but with that MOT in place it is ready to use.
