1972 Dodge Charger 383ci (6.3-litre) V8 Auto (3rd gen)

Photos provided by the vendor

Highlights

  • 1971 Model year car
  • 383ci (6.3-litre) V8 drivetrain
  • Bold paintwork
  • Power assisted steering

The Appeal

Offering mean looks, potent drivetrains and plenty of space, the Charger has always been something of a heady mix of abilities. By the time this third generation rolled around, Dodge had really hit their stride with the car and offered a wide range of drivetrains and options, so there really was a Charger for everyone.
This handsome two-door example has been refinished in a distinctive green and black colour scheme and is fitted with the desirable 6.3-litre V8. So it should be just as impactful aurally as it is aesthetically. Imported from the US and ready to go, this Charger would be a great way to make an entrance at next year's shows.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built in September 1971
  • Registered in 1972
  • US title included
  • Import duties and VAT paid
  • 32,225 miles indicated (five-figure odometer)

The Interior

  • Black leather upholstery to the seats is in good condition for the age, with some wear evident, particularly to the driver’s seat, but only what is commensurate with the car’s age
  • Matched vinyl door cards show some marks and scuffs but are generally in good order
  • The black headlining appears to be nice and secure, with no signs of damage
  • Air conditioning
  • The switchgear and instrumentation wears a warm patina and some wear from use
  • Wood veneer trim appears to be in reasonable condition, with some marks and chips
  • Modern Kenwood sound system with USB connection and Pioneer shelf-mounted speakers at the rear
  • Extra bank of ‘Sunpro’ gauges show readouts for oil pressure, voltage and temperature

The Exterior

  • Gloss green and satin black two-tone paintwork, with dividing orange pinstripe
  • The paint presents in decent condition, with some marks and blemishes
  • It appears the car was originally yellow and has been repainted at some point
  • Five-spoke, split-rim alloy wheels are finished in silver and look to be in nice condition
  • In general, the bodywork seems to be in fine fettle, although there is some bubbling corrosion showing on the tailgate edge
  • Underneath appears to be nice and solid, with a light amount of surface corrosion to the drivetrain components and some corrosion showing on the sills

The Mechanics

  • 383ci (6.3-litre) naturally aspirated V8
  • Three-speed automatic transmission
  • Power assisted steering
  • Side exit sports exhaust
  • We’re assured by the vendor that the car “starts, runs, drives and brakes”

Summary

If you’re looking to make an impact, this mean, green V8 monster may well be the perfect way to do it. Alternatively, it would make a great base for a light restoration, returning the car to factory spec. Either way, it’s sure to provide its new owner with an awful lot of fun.
