The Appeal

In 1970 the Triumph Stag has gone on to be a synonymous British classic and its charismatic 3.0-litre V8 produces a an intoxicating noise. This example appears to be presented in very good overall condition, from the engine bay to the interior this Stag appears to have been well looked after.

If you’re looking for a roadster to add to your collection, then look no further than this great example. With the top down on a twisty B-road, the car will come alive leaving you with a massive smile on your face.

The History and Paperwork

  • This car has been partial to a proper restoration and as such a lot of parts are reported to have been replaced
  • The previous owner was an engineer who stripped the car back to a bare shell
  • They then went through with new or replacement parts wherever necessary
  • It is reported that the V8 was overhauled a few years ago but this has not been documented
  • During the restoration the hood frame was powder-coated, and a new Mohair soft-top was acquired
  • With the new Mohair, hood retracted the cabin is filled with glorious V8 noise
  • This example has the additional benefit of being a manual with overdrive

The Interior

  • Thanks to the restoration the seats and their material are both in great condition
  • The front and rear seats both look to be near perfect
  • To match the black vinyl seats, the door cards have also been trimmed with the same material
  • In the footwells, the black carpets are also in lovely condition upfront
  • The centre console is in very good shape
  • Stained veneer complements the black elements very nicely, bringing a touch more class to the interior
  • This part alone makes this example very sort after
  • Behind the gear stick, you’ll find the heater controls and modern Pioneer stereo
  • The stereo appears to have Bluetooth connectivity
  • A beautiful Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel has been fitted
  • This wheel is in great condition and looks hardly used
  • Just behind the wheel are the bank of driving instruments
  • Overall, the interior of this Stag is presented in very good condition indeed

The Exterior

  • Triumph and Michelotti hit the nail on the head when they were styling the Stag
  • The sleek styling with flashes of chrome makes for a beautiful classic
  • The paintwork has more than likely been seen too during the restoration
  • There may be a few marks on the rims, but nothing that should require restoration
  • It appears to be running on four matching tyres
  • All of the extra little details on the exterior are also presented very well
  • The headlights and taillights all have nice clear lenses
  • The chrome still looks amazing
  • Returning a nice reflection, it is these small chrome details that make this exterior look even better
  • Being a convertible, it has a relatively new Mohair hood
  • As part of the restoration, the hood frame was powder coated and retrimmed with a nice hood
  • As such it is presented very well indeed
  • Whether you wish to travel with the roof up, or down, then you can do it with the knowledge that you have one excellent looking example

The Mechanics

  • Under the bonnet, you’ll find a healthy example of Triumph's V8
  • It is reported that this engine has been through a rebuild although there isn’t any paperwork to confirm this
  • The previous owner was an engineer, so we can imagine that the mechanicals are in great shape
  • Mated to the 3.0-litre V8 is a manual gearbox
  • With four speeds and an overdrive facility, it is a great gearbox

Summary

Thanks to some restoration and subsequent care, this Stag is a great example. The interior, exterior, and mechanical conditions all come together to create a classic that will be the pride of your collection.

Whether you’re out on the open road or admiring the car at a standstill it will look amazing. With its manual gearbox and recent overhaul, it is a really fantastic example.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
