The Appeal

First introduced in 1962, the MG MGB was British Motor Corporation’s lightweight, affordable 2 door sports car set to beat MG’s rivals and take the world by storm. With numerous models over the years, the roadster variant is arguably one of the most iconic British classic cars of all time. Today, the MGB has one of the largest aftermarket communities in the world and is often regarded as the greatest affordable classic.

This particular example is in superb condition and stands out from the crowd with its stunning paintwork colour.  The car benefits from a full restoration with plenty of new parts and presents buyers with the opportunity to own one of the finest MGB examples on the market.

The History and Paperwork

  • New heritage body shell in 2006
  • Comprehensively restored
  • 4 previous owners
  • Previous MOT certificates
  • V5C document present
  • Documents supporting restoration in 2006
  • 2 keys
This beautiful MGB began life in 1973 and would pass through just 3 owners before being restored in 2006. As part of the restoration, the vehicle received a vast array of new parts, and the fantastic paint it currently wears with pride. Later in 2010, the vehicle was fitted with a remanufactured Ivor Searle engine, with new carburettors in 2011.
Since receiving the new engine, the car has covered just 5000 miles and has instead spent the majority of its recent life tucked away in a dry garage, only venturing out on sunny days. Over the years, the vehicle has been well taken care of, and treasured by the current keeper. It is only due to lack of use, that this stunning MG is now looking for a new home.

The vehicle comes with a vast assortment of paperwork including the V5C document, previous MOT certificates, and the heritage certificate. The paperwork also includes a large collection of invoices for previous parts and labour, including key aspects of the restoration process, such as the new body shell.

The Interior

  • Re-upholstered seats
  • Fantastic condition
  • Moto-Lita steering wheel
  • Includes a rare Bermuda hardtop
  • Plenty of new interior parts
The interior of this gorgeous MGB is in excellent condition, with absolutely minimal signs of wear. Both front seats are in superb condition, benefitting from being reupholstered in black, with striking yellow piping. Behind the front seats, the current owner has installed a removable custom shelf with speakers for a greater music listening experience when out on the road.
Now, it just wouldn’t be an MGB without a classy 3-spoke Moto-Lita wheel, would it? The steering wheel itself is in superb condition and offers a great amount of contrast against the sleek black dashboard and trim. Each dial and instrument has also been well preserved, with no faults and extremely minimal signs of the usual wear & tear you often see with cars of this age.
In keeping with the rest of the car, both door cards and carpeting throughout the cabin are in excellent condition with no noticeable marks or defects. Overall, the interior is a very comfortable & well-cared-for space to find yourself in and helps provide a great passenger experience.

The Exterior

  • Excellent condition
  • Restored example
  • Eye-catching paintwork
  • Rare Bermuda hardtop
  • LED lighting
With MGBs seldom seen in this colour, this particular roadster stands out from the crowd and does so in a fantastic fashion. Having been re-shelled into a heritage shell and treated to this luscious golden yellow paintwork, the car presents itself beautifully with no noticeable marks.
The eye-catching paint pairs well with the car’s badging, lights, trim pieces, and classy wheels. All 4 wheels are in excellent condition and have plenty of tread left on both the rear Avon tyres, and front Uniroyal tyres.
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to roofs for this vehicle, with both the rare Bermuda hardtop and the sleek soft top being your options depending on the weather and desired look. The included Bermuda hardtop is painted black to match the soft top and is in great condition given the rarity and age of such a piece. The soft top is also in great condition with just a set of rivets required on the passenger’s side for a matching look.
If you’re looking for something a little different from the typical MGB colours, this is definitely the one for you.

The Mechanics

  • Starts & drives very well
  • Well maintained
  • Remanufactured Ivor Searle engine fitted in 2010
  • Accuspark electronic ignition kit
  • New steering rack
  • New fuel filter, fuel pump & battery
Buyers will be pleased to know that this MGB fires up right away, and is a dream to drive. The only notable known fault can be found with the vehicle’s overdrive, which is currently out of operation. For the vast majority of driving, you’re quite unlikely to notice this, and the fault certainly won’t detract from your overall experience.
This MGB also benefits from a remanufactured engine, which has covered just 5000 miles since 2010. In addition to the new engine, the car features electronic ignition; a welcome improvement to vehicles of this nature. The car is also fitted with a stainless steel exhaust, which helps the peppy engine sing, providing a tasteful note as you rev through the gears.
Over the years, the vehicle has been exceptionally well maintained, receiving regular servicing and parts where needed. More recently, the car was treated to a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and battery.

Summary

The MGB is arguably one of the most iconic British cars ever produced and is a car that should be on the bucket list of any true motoring enthusiast or collector. This particular roadster is truly a shining example within the classic market, benefitting from a comprehensive restoration, and care-filled past. Finished in an eye-catching colour, the car not only stands out from the crowd but performs admirably out on the road.
If you’re in the market for a stylish British classic that needs nothing to be enjoyed, look no further than this spectacular MGB!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
