1973 Volkswagen Beetle

  • Rebuilt 2.0L Subaru Engine
  • Pearlescent White Paint
  • Porsche Boxster Alloys

A seven year project by two friends, this is a Beetle like no other.

The innocent, air cooled Beetle has long gone, in its place is a stunning, Subaru powered masterpiece that's undergone a complete nut and bolt engine rebuild with custom fabrication and modifications plus a bare metal restoration and gorgeous paint job.

  • Substantial amount of invoices
  • Correct & Valid V5c

The Beetle itself was purchased from a collector back in 2017 and has been completely restored.

There Isn’t an inch on the car that hasn't been touched and as such there’s a folder of invoices for parts and labour that go into the thousands.

The car was a project for two friends, one of which sadly passed before the car could be completed, the remaining party set out to ensure that the car got to that finish line as a tribute for their late friend spending as much time and money as possible to reach the perfection they both dreamed of.

  • Porsche analogue dials
  • Porsche tombstone electric front seats
  • New headlining & carpets

Inside the original ‘peoples car’ has been transformed, you’re now greeted with a custom fibreglass dash, fitted with porsche analogue dials, a momo racing steering wheel.

In addition, a brand new headliner, newley rear trimmed rear seats and at the front the seats have been swapped out for a more plush Porsche Tombstone electrically operated set up.

It’s a subtle, simplistic layout but feels very well put together and in great condition.

  • Pearlescent Fiat white paint
  • Porsche Boxster alloys
  • Fabulous condition

Without question, this has to be the best looking Beetle we have ever come across.

The recognisable Beetle chassis sits substantially lower, on chunky wheels, it looks aggressive and poised ready to teardown a drag strip at the nearest opportunity.

Our favourite element has to be the paint choice, Pearlescent Fiat White, it’s a gorgeous colour, not boring or flat and not overwhelming or distasteful, a perfect colour for this Sporty Bug.

The car underwent a comprehensive overhaul to reach this point, jobs such as:

  • Stripped completely and sandblasted
  • Chassis repainted in black rust resistant paint
  • New doors including, new rubbers door handles and window mechanisms
  • New door cards, new front wings and rear arch's fibreglass flared
  • Painted with two coats of primer and three coats of pearlescent fiat white
  • All new glass all round

  • Naturally aspirated 2.0L Subaru Engine
  • Complete rebuild
  • Engine still to be run in

During our visit the car started and moved slightly into position for the photos, it started easily and ticked over effortlessly, providing an impressive and smile-inducing rumble.

The engine is still to be runin, it has covered less than 100 miles since the rebuild.

An extensive rebuild was carried out as part of the conversion, this included;

  • Rebuilt Subaru engine
  • All new pistons rebored
  • Reground crank, all valves reground new seals and belts
  • New high performance clutch and flywheel
  • New fuel injectors
  • New radiator and cooling fan, all new cooling pipes stainless
  • Refurbished steering box
  • Gearbox rebuilt and upgraded by lime bug
  • All new CSP brake upgrade, discs all-round
  • High performance brake hoses, servo assisted
  • New Coilovers including new top bearings
  • Rear shock absorbers built by protec adjustable
  • Porsche boxster wheels new tyres all round
  • New drive shafts
  • New anti roll bar and bushes
  • New track rods and ends
  • Hand built exclusive Exhaust System

An eye-catching and ear pleasing Beetle, that has had the highest level of engineering and refurbishment with the ambition of completing a project in memory of a late friend.

It's a charming vehicle, with a charming story, awaiting that fairytale ending of finding its forever home.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are Commission bids?

A commission bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
