The Appeal

The Triumph Stag is one of the synonymous cars that every enthusiast knows about, with its sporty 3.0L V8 engine and soft top hood it is a beautiful example of British engineering at its best. This example has a vast collection of paperwork, so you can plot out the majority of its life which is always key when you are looking for a classic car.

Not only does this car come with a history that dates as far back as 1978, but it is also presented in practically original condition with no obvious body repairs or structural issues. The current owner states that it has never been pulled apart and that even all of the shut lines and panel fitment are great.

If you are looking for an original British classic for the up-and-coming sunny weather then this is the perfect car for you.

The History and Paperwork

  • First hitting the road in September of 1974, it has then gone on to live a life with many happy owners along the way
  • The earliest invoice that comes with this car is one from December of 1978 where the car goes into a Hertfordshire garage to have the points seen to
  • There are quite a few other historic invoices for small jobs, like its 3,000-mile service in 1979. Which cost £12.15, a very good deal
  • In 1987 the car is sold; the invoice states the car had completed just 39,000 miles by this point and since then it has averaged just under a thousand miles a year
  • In 2001 the car gains 5 new wire wheels which still look new today
  • After 44 years the paint started to fade so in 2008, she goes in for a full respray. Maintaining her original colour it looks great when set against the dark red  interior
  • Along with all of these invoices, there are a few other interesting pieces of paperwork, such as lots of MOT certificates and a current V5
  • This car also comes with a heritage certificate, which again is a lovely thing to see
  • Some of the more recent works include 4 new tyres last year and new gearbox oil cooling pipes.
  • The next owner will be able to sit down and sift through this paperwork at their pleasure, the majority has been photographed to help a prospective buyer gain an understanding as to how this car has been looked after.

The Interior

  • Reconditioned seats
  • Original carpets
  • Original floor pans are in good, solid condition
Envisioned to compete with the Mercedes SL you can be sure that the interior of the Triumph Stag is a lovely place to sit. With comfortable seats and an interesting soft-top roof, it is possibly one of the best classic interiors to sit in and take in all of the great driving roads the British Isles have to offer.

The interior of this Stag is incredible, the beautiful dark red/brown seats were recovered a few years ago but they have still retained their classic appeal. Whilst out on the roads these seats hold you nicely and enhance the sporty feel of the car. Although the seats have been recovered, the carpets remain original. It does show some signs of wear to the footrest, but this is about it.

A classic car interior is always a smorgasbord of big buttons, cassette/CD players, and wooden accents. You will be happy to hear that this Stag adheres to all of these parameters and even better these elements are all in great condition. The wooden dash is presented in great condition with no obvious signs of delamination or damage. Along with the wood, the big buttons are all presented well too, along with the aftermarket Pioneer CD player.

As this is a convertible you can change the feel of the cabin, from a focused classic sports car into a light and airy cruiser. It was mentioned by the owner that there is a slight tear in the headlining material, but with the overall condition being so good, this should not be a worry.

Moving to the boot and roof storage area we can see that these too are in great condition. The area where the roof stows when it is done shows no signs of the dreaded rust, and neither is the boot floor either. This car was waxoyled at some point in its early life and still retains the majority of its protection.

With the interior of this stag being in such great condition, this should be your next classic convertible. As road trip season approaches the interior of this car will be key to many of your happy memories in the future.

The Exterior

  • Shut lines and panel gaps are great
  • All five wire wheels are in great condition
  • Beautiful looking car
Finished in a lovely classic white with a black fabric roof and sitting on lovely wire wheels this Stag is one true stunner. With all the curves in all the right places they always draw a crowd around them.

In 2001 one of the previous owners acquired 5 new wire wheels, 4 main, and 1 spare, these intricate wheels are present today in great condition. Whoever cleaned this car last must’ve spent a long time polishing these wheels. To match the new wheels the car has a full respray in 2008 and since then it probably has been stored inside or under a cover as the paint still looks excellent. Along with the beautiful paintwork, the car is adorned with a lot of chrome, and it is this chrome that really sets off the exterior, presented in wonderful condition this brightwork shows no signs of pitting or corrosion.

Along with the paint and chrome work the last major element on the exterior, the black canvas hood, is also in great condition and there are no obvious signs of damage to it. Whether you have this roof up or down she still looks great. Whoever has the pleasure of owning her next will have an excellent-looking car for the money.

The Mechanics

  • Starts, runs, and drives perfectly
  • Nice and smooth automatic gearbox
  • Sounds excellent
With the Triumph being made with the intention of competing with the Mercedes SL you can imagine that the powertrain would have to be beefy to keep up with the mighty SL. Fitted with a large 3.0L Triumph V8 this classic will sling you down the road at a fair rate of knots, the power from this V8 is transmitted to the road through a 3-speed automatic gearbox. Both the gearbox and engine work in perfect harmony making this car a joy to drive.

Whether you want to potter along to your local car show or road trip it to the French Riviera it will reward you all the way with huge smiles. With all of the paperwork that comes with the car, you can imagine that she has been maintained extremely well.

Out on the road, this car is lovely, with no worrying knocks from the suspension it rides beautifully for a near 50-year-old car. There is no doubt that you will have an excellent time driving and living with this beautifully running classic.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.
