1974 Triumph TR6

Highlights

  • Ground up restoration
  • Taken off the road in 1990 with 90,000 miles
  • Running and driving
  • Matching numbers
  • Incredible condition throughout

The Appeal

Effectively a brand-new Triumph TR6 with everything renewed or replaced as required is not something you come across everyday. One of the best known of the great British sportscars from days gone by, the TR6 creates excitement and new friends everywhere it goes.

Completely restored, with only a few bits left to finish off, this is a great opportunity to own what will certainly be one of the finest examples of the TR6 to be found on the road today.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in 1974
  • 3 owners until 1985 and two since
  • Dismantled for restoration in 1990 with less than 90,000 miles on the clock
  • The restoration was abandoned soon after and all the parts put into long term storage
  • Restoration restarted again in 2020 with a new owner
  • Everything stripped and restored
  • Bare metal body off chassis restoration
  • Hundreds of new parts
  • All major components either replaced or totally renovated
  • Many photos of restoration in progress
  • Many invoices for parts and works
  • Fully rebuilt gearbox
  • Rebuilt and rebalanced engine with re-profiled cams
  • Early history to verify original mileage and service history
  • V5c present
  • 2 sets of keys
Purchased in many pieces by the current owner in 2020 the halted complete restoration was re-started and is now almost complete with only a small number of things to finish off. The car starts and runs and requires only the completely new fuel injection system and timing to be finally tuned and set up.

The current owner has run out of time and space to finish the project and is now reluctantly offering someone else the opportunity to finish this 32-year journey to perfection.

The Interior

  • Completely re-trimmed interior
  • Black leather TR6 seats with red piping
  • Fully re-carpeted
  • Mohair hood
  • Tonneau cover (still to be fitted)
  • Walnut dashboard
  • All new instruments
  • Motolita steering wheel
The classic style interior has been completely re-trimmed and boy does it look good. Brand new instruments, steering wheel and walnut dashboard with leather covered seats make this one of the best looking TR6 interiors you’ll likely to ever come across. The only thing missing is a radio to fill the space in the centre console, though the new owner may prefer to just listen to what is bound to be a very compelling and addictive exhaust sound.

The Exterior

  • Bare metal re-spray in its original colour
  • Brand new wheels and tyres
  • Excellent chrome
Fully re-sprayed in its original Red colour the exterior of the car is presented in excellent condition with not a dent or a scratch to be found anywhere. The whole car is in better condition now than when it originally left the Triumph factory with a great paint finish and excellent shut lines and panel gaps.

It sits squarely on the road and looks every inch a fantastic example of the TR6, with only the original rear bumper showing some slight sign of age.

The owner advises, and the photos concur, that the bonnet alignment is not quite perfect yet and needs some further fettling and adjustment on its hinges to get it fitting and closing 100% correctly.

The Mechanics

  • Totally re-built mechanics and running gear
  • Fuel injection system has been installed with final set-up needed to get the car running smoothly
  • Hi torque starter motor fitted
  • Overdrive
  • Evans waterless coolant and auxiliary fan
The mechanics of the car have all been re-built and everything under the bonnet and under the car is pretty much new or totally refurbished to a very high standard.
The brand-new fuel injection system will need to be fitted and set-up correctly to get the car running to perfection but it’s all there and ready to be fitted.
The only other thing to be done is to wire the fuel sender unit to the fuel gauge to get that working.
The engine will require an oil change after its running in period but other than that there should be very little else to do except to enjoy this fabulous car.

The Summary

If you fancy an effectively brand new and rust-free Triumph TR6 in a fantastic colour and re-built to an incredibly high standard, then don’t delay and get bidding.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
