The Appeal
The 164E was Volvo’s concerted tilt at the North American market, a luxurious 6cyl, fuel injected update of the 144. Its blend of boxy Swedish style and enduring solidity made it a success.
The 164’s rugged reliability made them well used. These cars tended to have very long, hard lives. That makes very low mileage survivors like this lovely ‘74 rare and a useful reminder of just how appealing these cars are.
Finished in smart light blue metallic with a matching velour interior and neat whitewalls, it is a very well preserved car. No doubt its lightly used life in sunny California has helped. It was recently imported to the Netherlands and has been thoroughly checked over since arriving. Work has included changing the gearbox and engine oil, replacing the engine oil filter and plugs and adjusting the valves. We understand that the head gasket has also been replaced.
This magnificent slice of Scandinavian style is in great condition and ready to drive.
