1975 Triumph TR6

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Original RHD UK car
  • Superb condition
  • Looks terrific and drives spot-on

THE APPEAL

From when it replaced the TR5 in 1968 to its demise in 1976, the last of the ‘Big Triumphs’ evolved, becoming beefier and butcher in appearance with each model year – in part a kick back against the stifling challenges of USA emissions legislation that constantly detuned export models.

There are none of those concerns here, though, as this one is a full-fat, original UK-spec RHD car with 125bhp, making it the most desirable of the breed. It’s also one of the last TR6s built – finished in striking Signal Red and impeccably well cared for and maintained.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Original UK-spec CR series TR6
  • UK V5C
  • MOT and tax exempt
  • MOT'd till Aug '23
  • Old MOT certificates back to 1987
  • 10 years of bills with TR specialists Enginuity between 2004 to 2014
  • Invoices for over £5K since with JY Classics in Buckinghamshire
  • Previously supplied by well-known London classic car dealer
  • Last owner for nine years
  • British Leyland TR6 owners’ handbook

THE INTERIOR

  • Black leather high-back seats
  • Excellent wooden dash
  • Mota Lita leather-rimmed sports steering wheel
  • Good carpets and door trims

It’s a case of less is more inside the TR6, with two seats, a dashboard and some fairly rudimentary switchgear, along with a fabulous period Motorola push-button radio, with speakers mounted in the centre console, both of which appear to work to some degree.

The carpets and door trims are in good order, as is the wood-finished dash, while the seats are good quality high-back black leather items. The aftermarket leather-rimmed Mota-Lita steering wheel is also very cool indeed.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Signal Red
  • Original deep dish steel sports wheels
  • Very good soft-top
The bright Signal Red paint finish really suits the TR6’s squared-off lines and the finish is excellent, with the vendor noticing only the routine stone chips and relatively very minor dents on the bonnet.

The underside appears solid and has been underseal-protected, while it sits smartly on the original-spec deep-dish 5.5J steel sports wheels that were very much a feature of late TR6s.

The black vinyl soft-top is in great order and all of the chrome is pretty much spotless with the vendor only noticing one or two small dents and a slight scuff on one of the corners. It’s not certainly not concours, but it’s in generally very, very good condition throughout.

 THE MECHANICS

  • 2.5-litre straight-six
  • Well-serviced and maintained by respected specialists
  • Starts and drives really well
  • New fuel pump

The 125bhp 2.5 fuel-injected engine fires up well and runs beautifully, holding a steady temperature and good oil pressure.

The transmission is in fine order and engages all gears smoothly, including overdrive, and according to the vendor, the car is great fun and drives without fault.

Recent mechanical work has included a new Bosch fuel pump, PRV, filter & all new pipework, all new brake lines, all new clutch pipework and a new set of Avon tyres in 2017, which have covered very few miles.

The car starts and drives with no obvious faults being evident other than those noted but having said that the vehicle is being sold as needing a good going over before any use as there may be faults which are not noted.

SUMMARY

In wonderful condition and finished in a striking rare colour, this is a fabulous example of the TR6 that has additional collector appeal by virtue of being one of the last UK cars made and a genuine, original RHD example rather than a US import. It’s in fabulous order in every respect and is sure to turn heads.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
