The first winner of the now coveted European Car of the Year, the Rover P6 is a handsomely styled saloon. Offered with either a 2.0-litre powerplant or the legendary 3.5-litre V8, it was a clean sheet design. Clean lines and gorgeous details make the P6 a genuine British classic.
This Series 2 example is presented in very good condition and features a very attractive turquoise finish. With a comfortable and luxuriously appointed cabin and smooth performance from the V8, it's a great choice whether you want a show car or a usable and interesting daily classic.

The cabin of this P6 is a deeply lovely place. First of all, it's incredibly original and features some attractive period touches such as the contrasting headrests, wood trim and neat brightwork. As a 46 year old car that, as far as we know, has not been restored, it does feature a wonderful level of patina. There is some light creasing and cracking on the leather seats, but nothing that a good leather clean and feed wouldn't sort. However, it should be noted that the base of the driver's seat does have a couple of tears in the leather.
Overall the dash, door cards and switchgear all appear to be original, very solid and presenting in good condition. Yes, there are some signs of age-related wear, a few minor blemishes and a couple of small cracks, but we love the fact that this charming old car wears its history so well. The boot space appears very solid and, like the cabin, in good condition too.

P6s have always been very handsome cars, well-proportioned and nicely detailed. But this model takes it up a notch, finished in a shade of turquoise that really suits the car and is spot-on for the period. With the black vinyl roof and lashings of brightwork, it looks every inch the classic executive saloon.
All of the external trim is present and correct, with the lights, brightwork, bumpers and wheel covers all presenting in very good condition. There is some minor pitting and a few blemishes to the paint and trim here and there, but all of this is age-related wear and actually only enhances the car – it's the kind of patina you simply can't manufacture. The body panels themselves appear to be straight and true, with nice even gaps for the age and no signs of damage or corrosion. Again, there are some minor dings and blemishes, but nothing that would cause us any concern.
Overall, the exterior is in fine condition. A weekend spent polishing and lavishing a bit of love on it, and it would soon be back to its very best.

Rover's V8 (originally a Buick lump that Rover bought the rights to) has powered all manner of vehicles over the years, and it's easy to see why: it's robust, powerful and parts are still widely available, so it's a great choice for a classic car. It also sounds fantastic.
Nowhere was it more perfectly applied than under the bulging bonnet of the P6 3500S. The drivetrain suits the car's character perfectly. In this case 'S' stands for 'synchromesh', something we take for granted in modern cars but still something of a luxury in many cars of the era. The four-speed synchromesh gearbox allows smooth manual gear changes and, due to the fact it knocks a full second off the 0-60 time, is far more desirable than the automatic box. It's also much easier to maintain.
Mechanically the car presents well, with a smart looking engine bay and clean underside.
If what you look for in a classic car is style, comfort and performance, then this P6 certainly ticks the boxes. With a highly original and uniquely trimmed interior, lovely paintwork, throaty V8, manual transmission and many excellent features, it makes a great case for itself.
There are one or two minor issues a new owner may want to address – primarily on the interior – but generally this wonderfully designed old classic performance saloon is ready to go. Whether you're looking for an addition to an existing collection, a new regular-use classic, or just a project that needs minimal work to get it show ready, this is the perfect car for you.
