1977 MGB roadster

Highlights

 • A very low mileage example of the perennially popular MGB having covered a mere 1,000 miles or so per year
 • A really eye-catching example with the Yellow Chartreuse paintwork and black hood and bumpers providing an attractive contrast
 • A well-maintained example with all requirements being addressed regardless of cost

The Appeal

The MGB is an absolute staple of the classic car scene thanks to a combination of winning ingredients. These include excellent availability of parts, an engaging and enjoyable drive and a relatively low cost of ownership.
This example is a low owner, low mileage example in a great condition and with many of the usual MGB weak spots having been recently attended to. As such it represents an excellent prospect for the seasoned MG enthusiast or first-time classic car owner alike.

The History and Paperwork

 • A UK built and supplied car finished in the very rare Chartreuse colour which was a one model year only colour
 • Was taken to and kept in Spain for many years by a previous owner
 • Acquired by the current owner in January 2022
 • Only for reluctant sale now due to the arrival of another classic
 • Complete with an interesting and diverse history file
 • Complete with the original 1977 book pack
 • The current V5 in the name of the owner
 • Numerous invoices detailing work undertaken in both current and previous ownerships
 • A number of documents relating to the car’s previous residence in Spain
 • Numerous hard-copy MOT’s

The Interior

 • This MGB features a lovely, period-correct interior
 • The vinyl seats appear to have been recovered at some point in its history
 • Carpets, door cards and dash all present very well and are in keeping with such a low mileage example
 • Complete with some rarely seen original features such as the factory-fit rubberised steering wheel and the MG branded radio blanking plate
This MGB offers the new owner a lovely period-correct and very well presented interior. Many on offer have non-standard elements which detract from the purity and purpose of the original MG design. This example is a welcome exception which can either be kept in this original condition or personalised by the new owner as required.

The Exterior

 • Well presented in gleaming Yellow Chartreuse paintwork – a one model year only colour for 1977
 • Generally, in very straight condition with no areas of imperfection noted or reported
 • Panel gaps appear both tight and symmetrical with doors, bonnet and boot opening and closing cleanly and positively
 • Light lenses, screen and windows all appear original and in good used condition
 • The black vinyl hood is a newly fitted item and so in excellent, as new condition with an unmarked rear window
 • The Rostyle, 14-inch appear to have been professionally re-finished at some point and are fitted with chrome rim covers
 • Tyres are a mix of quality Continental ContiContact (front) and Barum Brillantis (rear) with all exhibiting good levels of remaining tread
The MGB was an enduring design being produced from 1962 right up to 1980 such was its popularity. That popularity endures today with these iconic British sports cars attracting a huge and loyal following world-wide. This example stands out, not just for its excellent condition but for its rare Chartreuse paintwork which suits the car’s sunny disposition perfectly.

The Mechanics

 • Fitted with the 1.8L BMC B-series engine which has proved to be a robust and reliable unit over many years
 • Originally rated at 95bhp and 110 Ib-ft of torque
 • This car has clearly been mechanically well maintained and presents very well under the bonnet
 • In recent times the car has enjoyed a new clutch, slave, and master cylinders
 • A new alternator, plugs and HT leads have been fitted
 • A recent oil change has been undertaken and a new exhaust system fitted
 • The owner reports all mechanical systems to be in excellent working order
 • Fitted with a fully operational, gear-knob activated Laycock Type LH overdrive available on third and fourth gears
The MGB was designed to provide a good level of performance but not at the expense of driveability and durability. The erstwhile B-series engine was the perfect solution to this brief, providing a good spread of power combined with ease of maintenance and reliability. Part of the enduring mix that makes the MGB such a popular proposition for the classic car owner.

Summary

This is a great looking MGB, and you will not see many in this striking colourway. The sunny yellow, black good and bumpers and well-presented Rostyle wheels making for a winning combination. This is a very original and low owner, low mileage example too.

Further benefitting from a number of key improvements, including a new hood and exhaust system, makes for a classic MG that will continue to deliver enjoyment and happy memories for many years to come.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
