The Appeal

95 horsepower in a simple, lightweight and undeniably loveable package, the MGB must surely be one of Britain’s most loved classic cars. In its 60 years the MGB has rightfully earned its title as the go to model for those in the market for a stylish, fun and genuinely usable classic car and roadster.
A later rubber bumper car that has been converted into a chrome bumper model, TRP 227R combines the greatly improved driving quality of the later Bs with the arguably far more desirable classic styling and stance of the earlier chrome bumper cars.
Quite possibly the perfect example of an MGB, the example we see here boasts a rather impressive upgraded Ivor Searle engine which since installation has covered less than 100 miles. A true gem, this car really wants for nothing and is one that is ready to be thoroughly enjoyed from the first moment of ownership.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered 01/06/1977
  • Accompanied by comprehensive set of service history
  • Large collection of invoices from specialist MG parts suppliers
  • Engine installation booklet from Ivor Searle
  • Ivor Searle engine warranty information
  • Correct V5 registration document present with the vehicle
  • 12 month MOT valid with no advisories
  • Tax exempt due to historic status
  • Two sets of keys

The Interior

  • Clean highly original interior
  • Great quality upholstery
  • Factory tonneau cover
An absolute marvel, the MG’s cabin presents impeccably, having worn its miles well, with incredible care having been taken to preserve the MG’s cabin in the most original standing possible.
Two smart and neat black seats take pride of place in the cabin of the MG, clean and unclustered the MGs interior has a wonderfully simple nature to it which of course is what continually draws so much appeal to these excellent little cars. The seats themselves are of a marvellous standard and exhibit impeccable black upholstery, with the same being said of the two excellent interior door panels, and the smart selection of embellishments and door furniture fitted to them.
Front and centre sits the sculpted dash piece, still vibrant in its colour and lacking in sun damage or cracks to the plastics. This naturally presents in great order, and comes well appointed with a beautiful set of factory gauges, all befitted with neat chrome trim. An undeniable improvement over the factory offering, we find an upgraded head unit sat proudly in the central plastic panel.
Opening the rear tailgate, one is presented with a simple and neat storage area, within which we find a full size Rostyle spare wheel.
For those looking to protect the cabin of the MG whilst the car sits in open top form, an exquisite black leather fitted tonneau cover will accompany the car upon sale and stows away neatly in the boot.

The Exterior

  • Marvellous green paintwork
  • Brand new anthracite wheels
  • Excellent convertible top
Is there a colour more suitable for a British classic than an exquisite dark green? There is something so befitting about that shade on a car like the MGB, it really does look marvellous.
The paintwork on this particular example is of a marvellous standard and presents as such, with a glorious deep shine exuding from the brilliantly styled body lines. Complimented excellently by the fitment of excellent front and rear chrome bumpers, both of outstanding quality, which are certainly an upgrade over the original somewhat bulky later rubber bumpers fitted to the car .
The rest of the chrome trim found around the car is of similarly high standard, as is the iconic front grille piece and windscreen frame.
Of course the appeal of any MGB comes in the form of the roof. Finished in excellent black fabric with clean quality rear and side screens, the roof is of an excellent standard and can be folded and retracted simply, and with ease.
At ground level we find a marvellous set of brand new upgraded 15” minilite alloy wheels finished in a brilliant anthracite paint scheme, undoubtedly an excellent upgrade for the MGB, all four wheels present perfectly.

The Mechanics

  • Brand new Ivor Searle engine
  • Engine has covered less than 100 miles
  • Overdrive gearbox
  • New stainless exhaust
For those in the know, the BMC B Series engine is something of a legend. The simple, reliable and punchy 4 cylinder has a vast community and wealth of knowledge behind it and as such is incredibly popular in an assortment of British classics, including the MGB.
The B-Series in this particular example has a bit more going on than the average example however, as dictated by an all important stamp on the matte finish block. Ivor Searle.
Legendary engine builders, Ivor Searle take these 4 cylinders and really turn everything up a notch, to provide greatly improved performance, reliability and refinement. The car we find here comes fitted with a brand new Ivor Searle engine, still with 12 months warranty, the engine has covered less than 100 miles since installation, and as such presents in near immaculate condition.
No surprise for a new engine, the little 4 cylinder fires into life almost instantly, with a rather refined engine note being produced through the freshly fitted stainless exhaust system. On the road the MG is reported to provide an exquisite drive, due to not only the new motor, but the overdrive gearbox and improved dynamics with this being a later car.
As highlighted by a selection of photos taken by the car’s current owner, the underside appears as solid and clean as the rest of the car.

Summary

MGB’s have an uncanny knack for selling themselves, having built up a legendary reputation as one of the all time great British classics, they tick all of the important boxes the discerning classic buyer could require and provide excellent value for money over many other British counterparts.
TRP 227R really is a special car and must surely be one of the finest and most exciting examples presented on the market today. With a brand new Ivor Searle engine, chrome bumper conversion, new wheels, tyres and simply brilliant green paintwork, this MGB has all of the good bits and more, and as such will make a welcome addition to a new loving owner’s classic lineup or is a car that equally lends itself to more consistent, regular use as a unique daily driver.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
