Highlights

・Targa Super Carrera
・Whale Tail rear spoiler
・The iconic drivers sports car
・Engine rebuilt 3,000 miles ago
・One owner for the last 16 years

The Background:

In 1978, Porsche introduced the new version of the 911, called the ‘911SC’, which stands for "Super Carrera". The car featured a 3.0-litre aluminium engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a 5-speed 915 transmission. Originally power output was 180 bhp, 911 SC sales totalled 58,914 cars. This version in the iconic Guards Red is the ultimate compromise between a sports car and cabriolet with the Targa roof option.
The current owner has only covered 37 miles since July 2020 and would like someone else to appreciate this Classic as he is just not utilising it very much.

The Paperwork:

The car has three owners, the current one has had the 911 since 2005 and cherished the car as it was always a dream of his to own a Porsche 911Targa. The mechanics have been covered by himself with main work being carried out by Porsche Tonbridge and a specialist, the photos show the invoices and details of work covered along with all MOTs since the early 80’s.
Since 2005 the parts that have been used are genuine Porsche products, a recent MOT was undertaken in July 2021 with no advisories. The car has its original book pack, manual and also certificate of authentication from Porsche.

The Interior:

Fitted with a black leather upholstery and green velour inserts to compliment the Guards Red paintwork, the interior has held up very well. The Porsche radio cassette unit is original and still operates perfectly, along with the electric antenna.
The door cards are in good condition along with the glasswork, inside and outside. All electrics are fully operational, switch gears are in good condition and interior carpets are well kept. Original spare tyre is present alongside the Porsche 12V tyre inflator/compressor and original bags for the wheel to go in. Tool set is in intact and has never been used along with spare Porsche belts.

The Exterior:

16” Fuchs black wheels are in superb condition and wrapped in Pirelli tyres at the front and Bridgestones at the rear, all have good tread and the key is present for the locking wheel nuts.
The Whale Tail spoiler is fully intact with no marks on it at all, as are the bumpers front and rear. There is a small mark on the OSR bumper as shown in the photos and on the top of the OSF screen edge is a small paint bubble. On the front of the bonnet lip there is a small chip (shown in photos) alongside this the drivers door has some paintwork missing on the edge in two places, nothing major that a touch in would not cover up.
The photos show the Guards Red paintwork perfectly, it really is that vivid and around eight years ago the bonnet was painted. Also the top edge of the roof has some small marks, just where the Targa roof has met the paintwork. The roof is also in excellent condition for its age.

The Mechanics:

Mechanically the car is in good order and as stated the current owner of fifteen years has maintained it himself, purchasing parts from Porsche Tonbridge. The MOT runs until July 2022 and the owner has only done 37 miles in the last year.
Around 3000 miles ago the car had a complete engine re-build, documents are shown to cover this, the owner covered this alongside a Porsche independent specialist.

The Appeal:

This 911 Super Carrera is the best of both worlds, five speed manual gearbox with that sonorous flat six three litre engine and Targa roof combine open top motoring with elegance and looks that even 40 years on stand out from the crowd. This is an opportunity to enjoy the remainder of Summer in style and own a car that will never lose its classic status.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
