The Appeal

The Silver Shadow is often considered one of the best Rolls Royce cars ever made. It’s no surprise then that so many were made with both Series I and II combined racking up over 30,000 units sold.

Built towards the end of the Silver Shadow’s production run, this Series II is a rarity among classic Rolls Royce example being in such amazing condition. Not only does it look the part externally, it has also had a lot of work done in recent times making it one of the best mechanical examples around.

History and Paperwork

  • Low mileage – just 41,000 miles
  • Sold to current owner in March 2022 by Rolls Royce specialist
  • Fully serviced by Hanwell of London
  • Folder including many invoices of previous work, over £4,000
  • Registered as Historic Car with the DVLA
  • Always kept in a locked garage

The Interior

  • Cream leather seats
  • Walnut dashboard and door card trim
  • Few signs of wear
  • Extended driver’s seat for additional legroom

As one would expect from a Rolls Royce, this Silver Shadow’s cabin would struggle to fit any more leather and wood. The vast seats are coated in a pleasing to the eye cream-coloured leather which extends to the dashboard and door cards while walnut trim pieces complete the show of opulence.

The current owner says that, because they come in at over 6-and-a-half feet tall, they have had the driver’s seat extended. The seat’s adjustability is therefore greatly increased, able to move back further than a standard that of a standard example.

Throughout the interior, there are very few signs of damage with just a couple of creases in the front seats being visible.

The Exterior

  • Subtle dark drown paint
  • Iconic Silver Shadow styling – golden era of Rolls Royce
  • Chrome trim looks great
  • Brand new whitewall tyres give wheels new lease of life

The Silver Shadow is a car one immediately recognises as a Rolls Royce; the long bonnet and boot lid, the many chrome pieces and the large vertical grille all make this design memorable.

Finished in a dark brown colour dubbed metallic horse chestnut, this example glistens in the sunlight accentuating the brilliant design of designer John Polwhele Blatchley and the rest of his team. Coupled with the chrome trim that lines the length of the car and aforementioned ornamental grille, the car looks just as a Rolls Royce should, imposing on the road.

With brand new whitewall tyres fitted, the wheels have been injected with a new lease of life providing the cherry on top of the cake that is this great condition example.

The Mechanics

  • Smooth Rolls Royce 6.8-litre V8
  • £4,000 spent on partial restoration
  • Car drives outstandingly according to current owner

Since collecting the car in March 2022, the current owner has invested over £4,000 in restoring the model to near-perfect condition. Among the list of fixes are aligned wheels, new tyres, a new battery, replaced fan belts, oil and oil filters replaced and the gearbox has been serviced.

With all these little niggles being tended to, the car is surely in as good a shape as any other Silver Shadow around.

The 6.8-litre V8 engine is connected to the three-speed automatic gearbox that came as standard in all Series II Silver Shadows. The owner tells us the car is outstanding to drive which is what one would expect from an example in such great condition.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are Commission bids?

A commission bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
