The Appeal
To many, the Maico 490 Mega 2 represented something of a last hurrah for Maico. Regarded by many as the last successful ‘twin-shock’ design and the last European motocross bike to challenge the Japanese for supremacy. It impressed even the most discerning of critics including the likes of the so-called ‘Mark Twain of dirt bike journalism’ - the infamously pernickety Rick Siemen.
This 1981 example has been restored to a very high standard and is said to be riding very well indeed. Not for the faint hearted, these visceral bikes deliver immense performance and we’re assured that this one doesn’t disappoint. The engine was rebuilt, all its bodywork replaced and everything has been repainted and re-stickered to its original specifications.
Treated to a recent service, this Maico is ready to use and enjoy.
