1982 Porsche 928 S (Manual) - LHD

  • 4.7-litre V8 mated to a five-speed manual gearbox
  • Appears to be a very solid, straight and unrestored example
  • Imported from Arkansas USA

The Appeal

The great thing about the Porsche 928 is how versatile it proved to be. They’re a competent grand tourer, sports car and luxurious coupé all rolled into one and that’s why we love them.

This 1982 ‘S’ features a 4.7-litre V8 and even more excitingly, a five-speed manual gearbox

The History and Paperwork

  • US Title from the state of Arkansas
  • We’re informed that it has never been restored
  • Imported to Spain but still bears an American registration

The Interior

  • The electrically adjustable leather seats show their age but remain usable
  • There is also some wear to the rear seats, but this is not excessive
  • It would appear that the steering wheel has seen better days and has worn through in places
  • So far as we could see, all the carpets and overmats are quite presentable
  • Speakers have been let into the door cards at some point
  • The dashboard exhibits a few cracks but remains serviceable
  • All of the switchgear appears intact and the gauge cluster is in reasonable shape
  • No radio is currently fitted
  • At present, the interior is in usable condition and is a good base for restoration

The Exterior

  • The red paintwork remains bright and really suits the car
  • We always love to see the 928’s pop-up headlamps, which are a really curious design
  • The vendor points out a few marks and some scuffs to the paint here and there
  • Generally, this is quite a presentable coat of paint which could easily be improved in places
  • The bodywork appears straight with decent panel alignment and door fit
  • Retains its plastic rubber spoilers and trims
  • The wheels present well considering their age
  • All of the lights appear in good order
  • The bonnet badge is rather showing its age now
  • Looks to be exceedingly solid underneath
  • The sills and door bottoms appear really sound
  • Overall, this is a really solid starting point for a rolling restoration

The Mechanics

  • Five-speed ‘dog-leg’ manual gearbox
  • 4.7-litre V8 engine
  • The engine runs smoothly and sounds fabulous
  • The vendor informs us that it has not been driven much since arriving in Spain
  • We recommend a thorough mechanical inspection
  • It seems to drive well, changing gear smoothly and braking as it should
  • The vendor does not report any faults following their test drives of the car

This looks like a great project and we’re sure this 928 S will turn out really well. If you’ve always fancied one of these capable Porsche’s, now’s your chance to acquire a solid, original example.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
