The Appeal

In their day, the front-engine Porsche range was created to replace the out-dated 911 product. However, market interest soon had other plans leaving cars like this 928 S2 a forgotten flash in the 1980s pan.

Today however, they are far more appreciated, providing a different experience to the rear-engine sportscar. With a plush interior and seemingly zero faults, this comfortable GT is ready to get its new owners anywhere they desire with ease.

Indeed, the entire car presents in fantastic condition thanks to a life of pampering and little use. Spending most of its life in dry storage, only hitting the road for MOT checks and services, it is ready to fulfil its potential with its new owner.

  • Odometer locked in the last 5 years

  • 4 owners until 1990
  • With one owner between 1990 and 2016
  • Always dry stored, rarely used

The Interior

  • Pasha interior upholstery
  • Everything inside the car works

Stepping inside this 1984 Porsche 928 S2 is just like travelling back in time. Indeed, the Pasha upholstery seat inserts brilliantly date the cabin whilst much of the interior presents in a fantastic condition thanks to the little use it has had for nearly 40 years.

The headlining does not appear to be sagging and the dashboard shows no sign of sun damage.

The 928 does have a reputation for failing onboard electronics. However, we have been informed that everything inside this car works perfectly, including the air conditioning. That being said, damage to the odometer during an MOT testing fewer than five years ago means the odometer has now stopped. We are told though that the car has covered few miles since the incident nevertheless.

The Exterior

  • Exceptionally good condition bodywork
  • Full glass out respray in original Chiffon White colour 2 years ago
  • Refurbished wheels

Much like the interior, the car’s bodywork is proof that it has seen little use. Indeed, the vendor informs us that it has been dry stored for the majority of its life only ever truly leaving for servicing and MOT checks.

Less than two years ago, the car went through a full glass-out respray. Presenting in a gorgeous coat of Chiffon White, its original paint colour, the car shines as if it just left the factory. A great colour, it truly accentuates the car’s styling.

The 7-slot wheels have also reportedly been refurbished, and it shows. Bar the odd little signs, searching for scuff marks is a futile exercise. They are fitted with a mix of Avon and Bridgestone tyres dating back to 2014.

Underneath, the car looks to be in a fantastic condition, with very little corrosion to spot. In fact, the Loe Bank Motors technician that carried out this car’s major 2016 service dubbed it one of the most solid examples they had seen.

The Mechanics

  • 4.6-litre V8, 306hp
  • Extensive service overhaul carried out in 2016
  • Starts and runs well, no reported faults

Under the bonnet of this front-engine Porsche sits a 4.6-litre V8 pumping over 300hp to the rear wheels. This power passes through a four-speed automatic transmission for a comfortable, GT driving experience.

We have been told by the vendor that this car starts and runs just as well as you would expect from looking at it. Indeed, it is supposedly a smooth drive that presents no faults on the road.

That is certainly thanks to an extensive service overhaul in 2016 for which invoices have been provided. In fact, all fluids and filters were replaced, new pads and discs were fitted, the engine get new sparks plugs and timing belts. Furthermore, having covered very few miles – just 10,000 – since the 1990s, the car is clearly ready to once again stretch its legs.

Summary

In stunning condition inside and out as well as in near-perfect mechanical condition, it is clear to see that this Porsche 928 has not been used particularly often. Indeed, the odometer reads just over 47,000 miles. That is despite a major servicing job completed around seven years ago. Clearly then, it is ready to fulfil its potential by providing countless miles of motoring to its new owners.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
