1984 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible

Highlights

  • Low mileage
  • Excellent condition
  • Well cared for and maintained
  • Drives and performs brilliantly

The Appeal

The Corniche was introduced in 1971, as somewhat of a development of the two-door Silver Shadow variants from the legendary coachbuilder, Milliner Park Ward. The Corniche boasts Rolls-Royce’s signature V8, gorgeous styling, a truly comfortable interior, and quirky advancements such as hydraulic self-leveling suspension.

Proving to be a rather popular vehicle, the convertible model accounts for the vast majority of the production run, with just over three thousand units produced. Today, the Corniche Convertible remains an incredibly desirable car, that still offers an impressive balance between performance, comfort, and styling.

This example boasts the benefits of low ownership, excellent mechanical health, low mileage, and an admirable overall condition. It’s a classy piece of automotive art that deserves to be considered by any collector, luxury vehicle enthusiast, or those looking for a rare car suitable for special occasions and functions.

The History and Paperwork

  • Low mileage example
  • Well maintained
  • Stamped service booklet
  • Rolls-Royce backpack included
  • V5C document present

This Rolls-Royce appears to have been rather well cared for over the years, and now boasts an impressively low mileage figure of just 63.5k. This mileage is indeed believed to be correct, as further supported by the included service booklet, which notes mileage and dates for each interval.

Although not a great deal of prior paperwork is present, the current owner has gone to considerable expense to ensure this Corniche performs as brilliantly as it does. Throughout their time with the car, the vehicle has been treated to the likes of a new radiator, suspension components, brake components, and much more. Perhaps most important of all with this convertible model, a new folding hood and mechanism have been fitted, and the roof now performs spectacularly.

Invoices for the above can be found within the included paperwork for the vehicle, along with the rest of the booklet pack, previous MOT certificates, and the V5C document ready to sign over to the new owner.

It is also worth noting that there is a mistake on the MOT mileage which was a result of an incorrect capture at the time.

The Interior

  • Cream leather
  • Wooden trim & detailing
  • Blaupunkt head unit
  • Excellent condition

Although hardly a surprise from Rolls-Royce, the interior of this Corniche Convertible is a very comfortable space, full of cozy luxury touches and classy styling cues. The cabin has clearly been well cared for over the years too, and appears to show its original finish.

In keeping with the mileage and age of the vehicle, there are of course minor signs of wear to expect. The driver’s seat shows the most notable wear, in the form of minor leather aging and slight bolster wear, along with a mark to the rear of the headrest & side. The passenger seats however reflect far less use, and now present themselves with only a few minor imperfections.

Carpeting throughout the cabin is also in impressive condition, showing no noticeable defects or major wear. Both door cards follow closely, although minor marks to the cream leather sections are noticeable upon close inspection. Facing forwards, the dashboard and accompanying trim pieces also reflect years of care, with only a few signs of age to observe.

Overall, the interior of this Corniche has been very preserved over the years, and now shows only a few of the expected signs of wear. For the sheer age of the vehicle, you’ll certainly be impressed with how the cabin presents itself.

The Exterior

  • Rum paintwork
  • Previously resprayed
  • Great condition
  • New soft top

According to the inner cover of the included owner's booklet, this Corniche Convertible was originally finished in Acrylic Tudor Red. It is believed that the vehicle was then resprayed sometime in 2004/2005, and now sports a coat of Rum red.

It’s a colour that offers dark merlot tones in the shade but pops to life with plenty of metallic flake in the sunlight. As keen-eyed viewers may have noticed, the vehicle also wears a rather colour-appropriate registration.

The paintwork has seemingly stood up to the test of time rather well, and still looks fantastic along the elegant body lines of this Corniche. There are of course signs of age and minor defects present, however, such as bubbling around the door handles, and the wooden door trim towards the window seal.

There is also a chip to the rear bumper, as well as bubbling to the lower edges of the rear arches, and minor visible corrosion as pictured. That being said, these defects are hardly noticeable at first glance, and any additional minor defects would likely benefit from a good polish.

The car sits on its set of 15” alloys, which wrapped in a set of whitewalls, look fantastic against the Rum paintwork and suit the car brilliantly. The wheels present themselves in a very impressive condition for their age, and now only show a few minor marks and the expected stubborn brake dust. Brightwork and exterior trim components also present themselves very well, even down to the ever-so-quirky headlight wipers.

The Mechanics

  • 6.75L V8
  • 3-speed automatic
  • Drives brilliantly
  • Regularly serviced
  • New steering column assembly
  • New power hood pipes
  • New fuel pump
  • New brake pipes
  • New radiator

As the service booklet reflects, the vehicle has certainly been well maintained over the years, with regular servicing by Rolls-Royce specialists. The vehicle has also received a tremendous amount of care from the current keeper, who sought the expertise of Fearon Rolls Royce & Bentley specialists for a great deal of new & rebuilt components.

As the included invoices detail, the car now shows off new brake pipes, new pipes for the leveling suspension, new bump stops a new fuel filter, a new radiator, heater hoses, ball joints, suspension dampers, and plenty more. The current keeper also had the power hood system renewed, and had a completely new hood fitted in the process.

As a result, the vehicle now performs without a single known fault; from the torquey V8, interior controls, suspension components, and all the way to the power hood. Whilst on the subject, it deserves to be mentioned just how impressive the roof is even to this day, folding away from state to state in an effortless and rather speedy manner.

Summary

This Corniche Convertible offers a superb opportunity to own a low mileage example of one of Rolls-Royce’s classiest vehicles to date. This Corniche has been rather well preserved throughout its life, now presenting itself in excellent condition both inside and out. The vehicle has also been well maintained over the years, benefitting from a great deal of recent work with the current keeper, and now performs without a single known fault.

With nothing required to be enjoyed, this Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible is ready to make its lucky new owner proud.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
