1986 Citroën 2CV6 Special

Highlights

  • Will have a new MOT and be ready to drive away.
  • Ideal easy restoration project
  • Well maintained example finished in red

The Appeal

Introduced in 1948 with the aim of moving the French peasantry from using horse and carts to the modern motor car the 2CV was an outstanding success.

It was the first front wheel drive car to sell over a million units and remained popular throughout its production run, both in France and abroad. It’s an iconic car that not only attracts attention wherever it goes, but always brings a smile to those driving past it.
This 2CV6 Special is finished in red and with the roll-top roof its a very European looking car in all the right ways.

With twelve months MOT and running well it's ready for its new owner to enjoy.

Whilst it would benefit from some restoration, we think that once you’re on the road with the roof down in the sun, you'll probably want to just keep driving.

The History and Paperwork

  • V5 present
  • 12 Months MOT
  • Invoices from 2017 for a new alternator, alternator belt, starter motor, rear shocks, track rod ends and two rear wheel cylinders.
  • An invoice from 2018 including 2 new spark plugs, oil and filter change, gearbox oil change and some welding for the MOT
  • Original owners manual

The Interior

  • Front seats in generally good condition
  • Rear seats in very good condition
  • Door cards in good condition
  • Dashboard and instruments in fair condition
Sliding in behind the wheel of this 2CV instantly takes you back in time.

With its minimalist design that is quintessentially French, we just want to be driving through rural French towns with the roof rolled back at the cars naturally relaxed pace.

This is what the previous owners used the car for and we have to agree, it’s the perfect car for some warm weather driving trips through Europe.
The seats appear to have been re-covered at some point fairly recently and are in general good condition with few signs of wear and are very comfortable. There is a small tear in the driver's seat as shown in the photos.

The dashboard has a new speedometer unit and is fully functional, it would benefit from some attention as there are some areas where the paint has peeled.

The Exterior

  • Fair condition overall
  • New roll-top roof
  • Some areas of bubbling paintwork that require attention
The 2CVs unique design coupled with the bright red paintwork certainly make for a striking car.

The brightwork is all present and correct, if in need of a polish. The paintwork is for the majority quite reasonable, however there are a few areas that need attention as shown in the images.

The roll-top roof appears to have been replaced fairly recently and is in good condition showing no significant signs of wear.

The Mechanics

  • 12 Months MOT
  • Starts and runs well
  • Idles smoothly and sounds good
  • The owner reports that it drives exactly as it should
  • Invoices and previous MOTs indicate this has been a well maintained car
With invoices for a range of replacement parts in 2017/2018 including a new alternator and starter motor alongside general servicing and some welding, it’s clear the previous owners looked after this car mechanically.

This is clearly demonstrated when you hear the car start and run as it sounds perfect.

As can be seen in the images the underside looks to be in good condition and again indicates that the car has been well cared for.

Summary

The 2CV is an easy-going car; easy to drive and easy to work on, it provides one of the easiest classic car experiences there is.

With a fresh MOT this 2CV is ready to be enjoyed and right in time for summer.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
