The Appeal
This era of Mercedes as most will know were at the top of their game and quality, with the highest of finishing from top to tail. This SL is no exception, being one of the best examples we have seen, it boasts virtually faultless paintwork and interior, a powerful V8 engine and smooth automatic transmission and would be the perfect addition to any collection.
Many of these vehicles because of their superb comfort have covered high mileage but this example has covered just 18,800 miles and has been recently overhauled to ensure not just a perfect finish but reliability too.

Just like the car, everything you would like to see is spot on, all nicely preserved for a solid future with all the documentation to back up its history.
Every single test certificate from day dot is there, an in-depth health check carried out by the SL Shop and a solid service history give excellent peace of mind.
The Interior

The luxurious interior of this SL is simply perfect with no blemishes or wear that we saw upon our inspection. Everything is beautifully clean and unworn as you would expect at such mileage,
with nothing changed or altered.
The cream carpets, door trims and lower dashboard are mark free and in remarkable condition giving the interior a very fresh feel with no evidence of anything having been removed or replaced at any time.
The leather seats too, are in remarkable condition, with just some very minor evidence particularly on the drivers seat of use which is to be expected. All in all, almost faultless and nearly concours condition.
The Exterior

The entire of the exterior of this stunning Sl was virtually flawless with just two minor blemishes to note: Tiny 3mm sized corrosion blemish on the nearside A pillar 4cm x 1cm Paint defect on the removable hard top in a very obscure area and almost unnoticeable.
Of course there may be others minor defects but in the time we spent observing the car we were astounded by the condition. Clearly, from new, this car has been given every attention necessary and this has resulted in possibly one of the best examples in the country.
All the chrome work and stainless trims were just immaculate and the headlamps and tail lamps were damage and moisture free with fully operational headlamp wipers. The car has seen some paintwork repairs in its time but the colour and finish matching are impeccable.
The Mechanics
- The engine compartment condition is really clean and tidy with a nice original look and no evident leaks or modifications
- Fully sorted by the SL Shop with every perishable item replaced or inspected
- Mercedes Anti-Roll bar fitted by SL Shop
- Overhauled braking system and renewed callipers, rotors and pads
- Factory fitted LSD
A look through the paperwork tells a lot about the mechanical side of this 420, with a no expense spared approach to the servicing and upkeep. A well documented overhaul by the SL Shop includes vital items that are often overlooked and can affect reliability with the vendor explaining that anything that was 'rubber' or perishable being replaced for safety and the ultimate longevity of the vehicle.
Summary
Beautifully kept and virtually flawless, this is a fine example of one of the more desirable classic Mercedes with a superb history, incredibly low mileage and an all round immaculate finish, with a modest reserve, you would have to go well out of your way to find a better example.
With the knowledge of a very recent overhaul, this will be a very useable and reliable classic, capable of very long journeys and with a large luggage capacity and power to match the gorgeous looks.
