The Appeal

Porsche’s front-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports car would go on to become the brand’s most successful sports car of the time and was available in a number of forms. Perhaps most notable from the 944’s production run, are the desirable Turbo, S, and S2 models.

As if the 944 S wasn’t already head and shoulders over the standard vehicle, the 944 S2 would be released with an even larger engine and a revised transmission to suit. As a result, the 944 S2 boasts respectable performance figures, even when compared to the near-legendary Turbo models.

As many enthusiasts will likely have noticed over the years, the 944 has been a rather underappreciated machine, only now seemingly receiving the praise it deserves. Today, tidy 944 S2 examples are becoming increasingly sought after, with opportunities such as this coming along once in a blue moon. If you’re looking for an appreciating classic Porsche that stands out from the lineup, the 944 S2 is a superb candidate.

The History and Paperwork

  • Well maintained example
  • Stored under shelter
  • V5C document is present
  • Treated with plenty of new parts

This Porsche 944 has undoubtedly been enjoyed over the years, likely serving as a fun summer toy for previous owners. After acquiring the vehicle in 2019, the current keeper decided this mighty Porsche deserved a thorough refresh and proceeded to get to work.

As an avid 944 enthusiast, the current keeper has spent in excess of £10,000 ensuring the vehicle not only performs brilliantly but looks spectacular.

As an included invoice displays, the vehicle now benefits from refurbished wheels, rebuilt brakes, timing belt & tensioner, repairs to the sills, a new clutch slave cylinder, and much more. Also included within the paperwork are more invoices for previous maintenance, previous MOT certificates, the original vehicle manual, and the V5C document.

As the current owner looks to enjoy their electric converted 944, this S2 is now ready to be enjoyed by its lucky new owner, where it will no doubt instill pride upon each glance.

The Interior

  • Mostly original interior
  • Great condition for its age
  • MOMO Tuner steering wheel
  • MOMO gearknob
  • Sony head unit

The interior of this 944 is in great condition for its age and mileage, especially with the vast majority of the cabin retaining its originality. The cabin does sport a couple of aftermarket MOMO pieces, however, with the sporty 3-spoke steering wheel no doubt being a welcome replacement to the dated original.

Naturally, the front seats do show signs of wear, mainly in the form of minor cracks to the leather, and typical bolster wear in keeping with the mileage. The quirky curved rear seats on the other hand, reflect far fewer instances of use and present themselves very well. The rest of the interior follows suit, with tired areas perhaps in need of a dash of TLC and a thorough clean to return to former glory.

It should be noted that the odometer no longer functions following the vehicle’s major mechanical overhaul, but all other electronic components and controls are believed to be in full working order.

The Exterior

  • Metallic grey paintwork
  • Excellent condition
  • Refurbished wheels
  • Rear spoiler
  • Debadged rear
  • Refreshed paintwork
  • Repaired sills

The 944 shows off what is surely one of the greatest side profiles of all time, complete with its muscular rear arches and iconic pop-up headlights. This particular example does Porsche proud, showing off an excellent exterior finish with very few signs of age or wear. Minor marks are noticeable upon very close inspection, but the overall finish seemingly leaves very little to be desired.

This 944 also shows off a set of refurbished wheels, which look absolutely superb against the rather beefy brake calipers hiding behind. As the striking red paint looks rather fresh, it is safe to assume full attention to detail was paid to the calipers during their rebuild.

Despite the car now showing a debadged rear, all remaining badging and trim pieces are in a similar condition to the paintwork, with very few defects. Buyers may wish to note the fitment of the rear spoiler and rear windscreen trim pieces.

The Mechanics

  • Superb mechanical order
  • Drives brilliantly
  • Very well maintained
  • New battery
  • Rebuilt brakes
  • New timing belt & tensioner
  • New alternator
  • New starter motor
  • New power steering pump
  • New thermostat
  • New clutch slave cylinder
  • New plug leads
  • New rotor arm
  • New spark plugs

As this is one of the desirable S2 944s, the car features a rather impressive 3L DOHC 4-cylinder, and a revised transmission. Quoted performance figures set the 944 S2 just behind the turbo model, with an impressive 0-60 time of around 6.8 seconds. Even by modern standards, that is very respectable for a naturally aspirated car, let alone back in 1989.

As the included invoice and list above will suggest, this 944 has been given a new lease of life, courtesy of the enthusiastic current owner. Don’t let the mileage fool you, this is no tired ol’ Porsche, she’s a fully functioning beauty that delivers a superb driving experience. With an incredible list of new parts and repaired components, the only known fault with the vehicle is the speedometer, as mentioned earlier.

The vendor is selling the car due to having a 944 converted to electric.

The Porsche 944 is finally receiving the praise it deserves, with desirable 944 S2 variants becoming increasingly difficult to find., This particular example is in excellent condition for its age, has been well maintained with over £10K spent, and now performs superbly. If you’re looking for a fantastic example of Porsche’s once unsung hero, this is the car for you.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
