1990 Jaguar XJS Convertible Auto

  • Fantastic original condition
  • Low mileage
  • 5.3 litre V12
  • Private plate included

The Appeal

The beautiful big V12 XJS from Jaguar is very much an appreciating classic, especially with the V12 engine, and the convertible hood. Featuring timeless and elegant styling, characteristics of the big cats - its long bonnet, super sleek lines give it a distinctive and at the same time luxurious appeal.

First launched in 1975, it was very much a luxurious Grand Tourer rather than a sportscar. Its ride was fabulously smooth and provided driver and occupants with fast, silent and effortless motoring on both short and long journeys.

This example is in very nice condition throughout and just needs to be recommissioned having been stored for the last seven years.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally supplied to Guyson International Ltd by Jaguar of Harrogate in 1990
  • Just 2 owners from new
  • Handbook and owner’s manual in original wallet present
  • Previous owner for 30 years
  • Fully stamped service book
  • Documented clock change in service records at 2,140 miles
  • Clock stopped in 2007 at 26,117 miles
  • The car was used sparingly after that (possibly 100-200 miles per year) until 2017 when it was taken off the road and stored
  • Current mileage is believed to be under 30,000 miles but this cannot be verified as the clock is still not working
  • V5c present
  • Private cherished number plate has significant value and will be sold with vehicle
  • 1 key

The Interior

  • Full virtually unmarked magnolia leather interior, just a little wear evident to the driver’s side bolster
  • Veneer dash and ‘ski-slope’ centre console in excellent condition
  • Electric seats
  • Blue electric hood
  • Door cards nice and clean
  • Original carpets and overmats in good order
  • All electrics reported to work as they should with the exception of the driver’s window which is currently not working
  • Central window switch casing has come free from the centre console – should be an easy fix
  • Clean and dry carpeted boot
  • Full tooklit
  • Full size spare wheel
  • Fog Lamp covers

The Exterior

  • Good condition Solent Blue paintwork with a small stone chip to the front and a couple of very minor (fingernail) impressions (one near headlight and one on door) which are barely noticeable - see photo gallery
  • Electric blue mohair hood in superb condition with one small abrasion near rear nearside window
  • Matching hood cover
  • Original Jaguar Lattice Alloy wheels are in very good condition
  • Underneath looks clean and solid as do the wheel arches and sills, as you would expect from a car that’s been garaged all its life
  • Lights all nice and clear and without damage
  • Very good overall condition

The Mechanics

  • 5.3 litre V12
  • Automatic gearbox
  • Full service history
  • Rubber bushes need replacing
  • Power steering fluid leak will need attention
  • There is currently an ABS light on the dash
  • Brakes reportedly will need attention, possibly just a bleed, having been laid up for several years
  • Clean engine bay
  • The car starts on the button, drives well and pulls through the gears nicely, however, vendor advises it will require a general service and recommission, though the oil still spears very clean

Though the odometer has stuck, the car’s condition would certainly support that the indicated mileage is legitimate. If you are looking for an unmolested, low mileage XJS, then this could be a great opportunity to grab a car that has been looked after and used sparingly through the years.
With just a little attention this could be a fabulous addition to any collection or could suit anyone who appreciates fine engineering and a sublime balance of performance and comfort.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
