1990 Land Rover Range Rover Vogue SE

Highlights

  • Very well-sorted Range Rover with a number of excellent off-road upgrades
  • Benefiting from a recent documented spend in excess of £5000
  • Replacement 4.6-litre engine, with fewer than 20,000 miles covered since installation

The Appeal

Developed under Spen King and making its debut in 1970, the Range Rover was a go anywhere off-road vehicle which offered a of level comfort above that of its Land Rover contemporary. In its early form the Range Rover was still fairly utilitarian in its nature, evolving only in the subsequent years into the luxurious machine we have today.

This particular Range Rover Vogue SE has lived quite an extraordinary life to date, having travelled extensively whilst under its current ownership and only this year completing an off-road tour through Morocco. As one would expect therefore, it has been maintained to a high mechanical standard over the years and also benefits from a number of appropriate upgrades.

Fitted with an improved suspension setup, replacement 4.6-litre engine (seeing less than 20,000 miles use to date) and a number of other modifications,  this well-sorted Range Rover is now willing and able to carry on its adventures under new ownership.

The Interior

  • Stepping up and into the comfortable driver’s seat of this Range Rover one can immediately appreciate its superb elevated driving position, offering a great view of the road (or terrain!) ahead
  • Classic ‘hard dash’ Range Rover interior in an attractive colour combination of light tan leather with burr walnut veneers
  • Air conditioning reported to be working well
  • All interior gauges are reported to be in a functioning condition, with exception of the odometer which has very recently stopped working and the interior courtesy light
  • Fitted with an upgraded stereo system with DAB radio capability
  • Electrically operated front seats and windows
  • Large boot area featuring a leisure battery supplying power to a number of cigarette lighter outlets and two 3-pin plug sockets.
  • The owner advises us that the fitted leisure battery is charged by the engine once the car’s primary battery is at 100%
  • Additionally the Range Rover is fitted with a mains power supply hook-up, located under the bonnet
  • Headlining in a good condition with note made of invoice for replacement item in 2004
  • Overall we would say that the interior presents in a well-used but largely original and complete condition.
  • Although there are clearly some areas which would benefit from a little attention, this is obviously a Range Rover which has been well-loved during its current 20 year ownership

The Exterior

  • Gorgeous shade of original light metallic green paint with contrasting classic Range Rover 3 spoke alloy wheels in black
  • Depending on its future intended use, the vehicle could benefit from consideration of a respray given its numerous scratches and areas of lacquer peel
  • Aluminium exterior bodywork presenting in an average condition with a few areas of minor damage and corrosion noted as per photographs
  • Some body work damage noted over the upper rear tailgate
  • Fitment of heavy duty steel bumpers front and rear with high-lift jack points
  • Rock slider bars fitted with additional guards for oil sump and differential
  • Fitted rear swing-away spare wheel carrier with ability to carry two spare wheels and also featuring external fold-down tables
  • Heavy duty towing hitch with power hook-up
  • High level snorkel fitted, exiting at the A-pillar on nearside
  • Fairly large crack noted over upper nearside aspect of  the windscreen, not affecting the driver’s field of vision

The Mechanics

  • Upgraded with later specification and totally refurbished 4.6-litre V8, at a cost of over £8000, covering fewer than 20,000 miles since its installation
  • Twin rear shock-absorber and twin spring suspension arrangement, further improving off-road capability with provision made for fitment of twin shock absorbers at the front if desired
  • Recent invoice for exhaust manifold repair and gasket replacement, replacement radiator with rubber mounts, bonnet catch repair and replacement belts totalling in excess of £5000
  • Underbody has received preventative Waxoyling treatment twice whilst under current ownership
  • Chassis reported to be free of significant corrosion, supported by MOT history and attached photographs
  • On the road the owner reports the Ranger Rover performs very well, benefiting from its upgraded engine, suspension upgrades and recent steering geometry correction

Summary

Under its current ownership this Range Rover has undoubtedly led an exciting life, enjoying successful excursions to exotic destinations such as Morocco, Corsica and the Alps. Featuring a number of excellent modifications at considerable expense, there can be little doubt that this Range Rover is now ready to get back out there and into the wild!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
