With significant mechanical advancements and cosmetic enhancements over the previous generation, the 964 is probably the best of the air-cooled 911s. Consistently sought-after and increasingly collectible, it’s rightly regarded as an automotive masterpiece.
Here we have a very well-kept example, benefitting from an excellent blue-on-blue colour scheme, a desirable manual drivetrain and a very comprehensive service and maintenance record.

The Interior
Marine blue leather upholstery
Brand new carpets
Optional alarm / immobiliser
Clarion radio / CD system
Electric windows and mirrors
Electrically adjustable seats
Perfectly complementing the dunkelblau paintwork, the Marine Blue upholstery is in very good condition for the vehicle’s age. The front seats, which feature a striking white contrast piping detail, were sympathetically restored in July 2021. They wear a light patina and some minor wear, but they are overall in very good condition. Alongside the refreshed seats, the deep blue carpets are newly fitted and look excellent.
The dashboard, door cards and other items of internal trim all present very well, with the switchgear and instrumentation being clear and undamaged, with just light wear and minor blemishes commensurate with the car’s age. Clearly, the owner has cherished the car and cared for it very well, and it really does show in the condition it presents in.
We’re told by the vendor that all of the car’s features work perfectly, with the only exception being the air-conditioning, which currently does not function.
As a 2+2, the cabin benefits from a couple of small occasional seats. Perfect for small children or as extra luggage space, it makes the 964 a genuinely usable daily.
At the front, the luggage compartment is lined with neat black carpet in fine condition, and also features the original tool kit and a space-saver spare wheel. Again, everything is in fine condition, with no unexpected wear or damage evident.
The Exterior
Dunkelblau (dark blue) paintwork
Refurbished original 16” Porsche alloys
Extra set of rare 17” Porsche Tequipment Dyno wheels
New tyres on both sets of wheels
With deep, glossy blue paintwork and a matching dark blue fabric roof, the specification of this 964 is subtle, elegant and timeless. The paint presents very well with only very minor blemishes. Similarly, the fabric roof is in lovely condition, with no evidence we could see of damage or splitting.
All of the external trim, light lenses, glass areas and other features are complete and in fine condition, with no signs of cracks or damage. The electronically activated rear wing works as it should and looks great.
Coming with two complete sets of alloy wheels – the original 16” items which have been refurbished, and a rare set of 17” Porsche Tequipment Dynos – there’s everything here you need to run a full set of summer and winter wheels. Both sets of alloys are wearing new tyres.
Underneath, the car appears to be in exceptional condition for its age, looking very clean, straight and free from corrosion.
The Mechanics
3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six M64 engine
5-speed manual transmission
ABS and power steering
Front MacPherson struts and rear semi-trailing arms
Like all 964s, the car features a classic air-cooled drivetrain. That meaty 3.6-litre flat-six offers up a healthy 260bhp to the rear wheels, with all that power running through a 5-speed manual gearbox. It’s a tactile and evocative combination that, in our opinion, is absolutely the perfect specification for a classic 911.
At 80,000 miles, the engine had a top-end rebuild. A Hotfilm MAF was fitted, as well as new piston rings, cam shaft and tensioners. We’re told by the vendor that the brakes and suspension have been upgraded. A stainless steel exhaust has also been fitted.
The owner tells us that the car starts, runs and drives beautifully, with no mechanical issues they are aware of. With a part main dealer / part independent specialist service history and a vast maintenance record, this does not surprise us. The vehicle currently has an MOT until September 2022, but the owner says that the car will be supplied to its new owner with a fresh 12-month MOT.
Summary
The 964 is an icon for a reason. An enormously desirable car at the best of times, when presented in this kind of condition and with such a brilliant specification, we believe it’s one of the most complete sports cars in existence.
This example has been carefully and meticulously looked after, maintained to a very high standard and is presented in excellent, unrestored condition. The history file is superb and we don’t think we’d ever get bored of that 3.6-litre flat-six / manual transmission combination.
If you’ve always wanted a 964 cabrio, then this is the perfect combination of spec, history and usability.

About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
Anti-sniping
Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
Auto-bidding increments
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
